Agressive Sentries, must be doing something wrong.

Hi,
now that I finally have my Dominix I fitted it quite tanky to start my new career as droneboat pilot. But it seems I'm doing something wrong, when I shoot a NPC in a mission and release my sentries after I have the aggro they don't hit anything. If I lock the targets and manually set them to attack something it works pretty well, could be better I think but well...I'm totally new to this so I prefer it a little more tanky. Have 2 Tracking Links, most setups I found use 3 but well..the tank.

By the way, which two sets of sentries would you suggest as OmniDPS, so I don't have to switch them for every mission? Currently I use Garde and Warden most of the time, I mean one long and one more or less short range plus Hobgoblins for the small stuff that comes too close.

This is normal in my experience, if you drop sentries after you've been agro'd they just sit there and do nothing.
So...drop sentries, get agrod....they shoot the agressor.
Get agro, drop sentries....they dont do ****.

About what sentries to bring....dont be lazy, swap em out for whatever npc youre about to face...takes 4seconds max to throw in a different set of sentries.
Usually i always have wardens+Garde's or Wardens+bouncers etc.

Since the NPC aggro thing hit, I don't let me drones do their own thing anymore. I make sure to hit the "F" key to have them attack exactly who I want them to attack. Sentries do attack any painted target fairly quickly for me, but I don't see that as an issue. If I don't need them, I recall them. I have no problem micro-managing my drones these days.

I have never experienced this myself. Yellow boxing is not an act of aggression if that is the case. I know that some rats can't aggro untill they get within a certain range.

Basically if you're Domi isn't doing anything and all the dps is coming from the sentries there's no way to keep aggro on your ship, they will end up shooting your sentries even if initially they aggroed you. Put some guns on the Domi to get some aggro, but even without any guns sentries can be microed in and out when they get aggroed to refresh the aggro, it works well until you reach a point where the damage is manageable and you don't really need to worry.

All Drones suffer from this bug, not just sentries, if you already have aggro before you launch them, they just orbit your ship and do nothing, until you start shooting something or they happen to get shot.

It is a good idea to keep a couple of guns on your Domi to start the drones shooting/one volley some frigates :P

It really only becomes a "problem" if you arrive on grid and immediately get ecm'd damped or what not....it is simply resolved by just microjumping away and dropping your sentries.

Or fit remote reppers, and repair the sentry being attacked (this'll get some aggro back to you as well)

Guns on a sentry Domi .... 3 or 4 links, tractor beam, remote repper, leaves 0 or 1 /or 2 guns going to annoy stuff to death I guess :) I'll keep my 140km range to shoot stuff with sentries. Target frigates first (unless triggers).

The amount and focus of rat aggro seems completely out of whack, have gurista BS shooting 1 of 5, pull it in, and they won't shoot another one for atleast a full minute

Seems that solved the issue, not sure how long it might have taken me to figure this out myself lol

Works well, think I will continue this way. Much more micromanagment then expected so goodbye afkboat but quiet effective.

Some guns...sounds easier than it actually is with all the drone stuff.

Thanks for all the replies, gathered some useful information here and it works much better now. Maybe I will switch over to the Navy Dominix as gunboat with drone support, but for now I'll have some fun with the drones.
