Hi guys,

I am really new at this game and need to determine a direction i wish to take and stick to it else my skill training will be all over the place. I really like the idea of solo PVP with T1 frigates. I have been googling around and most of the best advice seems really outdated.

It seems the incursus was the best a while ago. Is this still the case?
The condor and merlin seem popular now but has this passed?

In the current version (Odyssey) what are the most competitive frigate PVP ships and loadouts? Cheers!

In all honesty it depends on your character skills, and piloting ability.

I advise you to read the "Know Your Enemy" piece by Azual Skoll. It's about a year old but the information on the ships and how to fly them is still pretty relevant.

I hope that helps.

There is no "best" ship in eve, but there are ships that fit very well into certain styles of flying. The best ship for you will be ships that fit your style of pew, once you figure out what you want. In some cases it's a rock-paper-scissors scenario between ships and fits. Even the most popular fits have their flaws. Find what works for you and become good at it. Before long it will be the best ship because you know how to fly it effectively.

To illustrate my point: The condor is frequently used as a light missile kite boat, but lacks the damage to kill anything with an active tank. The incursus is frequently double repped and is quite popular with that fit, but anyone with a brain can disengage at will. I will almost always try to pick a fight with both when I see them on dscan in my executioner, kestrel, tristan, or slasher.*

*setting up the fight may include proper positioning and using plex mechanics so I don't instantly bone myself. Brains > ship choice.

As stated above, there is no "best" ship in EvE for everything. Balancing teams have done an excellent job at every ship viable at something. Some can do more than others, but don't excel at any of those things, whereas some are very niche, but kick ass when used for that. Of all the T1 frigates, my favourite for solo pvp are the Incursus, Atron, Slasher, Tormentor, and Tristan. All of those ships can be fit in a myriad of ways for a myriad of roles. I tend to fly mine as scram-range kiters, with the exception of the Tristan, which I fit to brawl. I second the suggestion to read Azual's "Know Your Enemy" guides. They are very informative and helped me learn what the capabilities if each ship is. Besides that, your best bet at learning is to join an established pvp corp that can help guide you, and just go out there and pew.

I wear my goggles at night.

Any spelling/grammatical errors come complimentary with my typing on a phone

Hey all, thank you for all the feedback, the Know Your Enemy site was a really good read. Im thinking of doing FW pvp. Basically waiting at the site beacon and jumping on people when they come in. For this task it looks like the best ship may be the incursus dual rep. Eventually i want to make the incursus T2 rails but this build would have T1 blastsrs.

Am I on the right path, what do you guys think? I have also been training skills based on the Eve Skill Tracker badges for the medium Incursus. Would these be correct or is there some new skill direction i should take?

Thank you once again Smile

Know Your Enemy was an awesome blog feature, just make sure your not reading the pre-tiercide ones.

Personally, for solo stuff I prefer something with a strong burst/active tank. Likethe Incursus above, but shield tanked with more wingy bits.

[Breacher, brawlybreacher]

Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

X5 Prototype Engine Enervator
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
Medium Ancillary Shield Booster,Cap Booster 50
1MN Afterburner II

Rocket Launcher II,Mjolnir Rocket
Rocket Launcher II,Mjolnir Rocket
Rocket Launcher II,Mjolnir Rocket

Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer I

Drones Warrior II,2

Can hold brawlers at arms length while applying full damage, and with a bit of SP rockets have enough range to take out some rail/arty fits (those that fight in scram range at least), although lml ships will ruin your day.

But really, your best bet is just find a frig you like and your sp is geared towards, and get out in search of good fights. Every time you die, replay the fight in your head and think about what you could have done differently. And expect some hard counters to your fit that you won't be able to beat 1v1, and learn to predict and avoid them. Pick your fights basicly.

Nice fit although i like flying a slightly different version. I replace the Nano with a Small Ancillary Armor Repair and put in two Missile rigs (Damage and RoF usually). I also replace the Rocket Launchers with Meta4 due to tight fitting without expensive implants. The SAAR can give you that slight advantage you need against brawlers with more damage than you while you are reloading your MASB. I still need to get better but I tried both these fits and found the dual rep to be nicer to fly and perhaps a bit more forgiving :-)

This is so weird..

I don't even have to suggest the rail incursus.. You people have come a long way *proud*

I do miss when noone expected rails though =<

on the Incursus though i would go with different rigs. You don't want explosive since you want to go fast.

Id say dps, metastasis, aux pump OR dps aux pump aux pump if you are good at mitigating transversal. To be honest i have never died in a rail incursus because something got under my guns.

Might be an old school way of thinking but everytime I see dual tanks I feel a *shudder*
