Grinding standings

Hi all

I've started grinding standings for a new corp that has multiple agents in the same station. My question is: Is it worth grabbing multiple missions to do at the same time ("safety" aside), or should I dedicate to a single agent at a time? In my case, there is one lvl II agent and three others that are lvl I. What is the standing with a single agent for? Storyline missions?

Except that I already train the skill to increase it, you can see I don't know much about the standing mechanics...

Standings will use which ever is higher to determine how much an agent likes you, and the more they like you the more they pay you. The difference is small, but it's there.

Besides that, it's possible to, assuming you run missions in a fleet with friend you does, gain access to one agent in a corp before any other agents of the same level in that corp.

Adding to what was already said, Faction standing over-rides Corporation standing which over-rides Agent standing for access.

Basically that means :
With high Faction standing, all regular Agents in all Corporations within that Faction will be available for access.
With high Corporation standing, all regular Agents within that Corporation will be available for access.
With high Agent standing, only that Agent will be available for access.

All regular Agents will accept either Faction or Corporation standing for access. All Agents look at and accept standings modified by Social skills. Each regular mission completed will give both Agent and Corporation standing increase.

If using Corporation standing to access Agents above level 1, the Faction must also be above -2.00 standing.
If the Faction or Corporation standing drops to -2.00 or lower, only Level 1 Agents will be available.
If the Agent standing drops to -2.00 or lower, then no more access to that agent even if it's level 1.

Required standing per Agent level :
Level 1 = N/A
Level 2 = +1.00
Level 3 = +3.00
Level 4 = +5.00
Level 5 = +7.00

Storyline Missions :
Completing 16 regular missions of the same level for the same Faction will result in a Storyline mission being offered. Those 16 missions don't have to be with the same Agent or with the same Division. Completing a Storyline mission will give Faction, Corporation and Agent standing increase.

There's a couple of exceptions to what I posted above, ie, Cosmos Agents and Research Agents.

Cosmos Agents :
These Agents require higher standing for access compared to regular Agents and will only accept Faction standing for access. Most of their missions can only be completed once in the life of the character. Their missions are tougher than regular missions, ie, a level 1 Cosmos mission is like a regular level 2 mission, etc. Completing these missions will give a large Faction standing increase with a little Corporation and Agent standing increase.

Research Agents :
These Agents require both Faction and Corporation standing for access. Their missions are offered once every 24 hours and are mainly Courier or Trade, ie, deliver or pick up a specific item. Reward for these missions are double Research Points which can be redeemed for Data Cores which are used for Manufacturing / Invention. Completing these missions will gain both Corporation and Agent standing increase.

All completed missions add to the count for Storyline mission offer.

Agent and Corporation standing is usually easier to gain than Faction standing. Event Agent missions will quickly increase Faction standing. Remember, gaining positive Faction standing with a group of allied Factions will also incur negative Faction standing hits with their enemy Factions. The amount of negative standing incurred is about half of the positive standing gained. Basically it's 1 step forward, 1/2 step back.

Check out 'The Plan' for information on repairing negative Faction standings.

You only need +5.00 or higher standing to access level 4 agents. Nobody can state the specific amount of missions needed to complete or the amount of standing gained per mission due to various factors involved. Those factors include:

Agent location = A difference of 0.1 in system security level from 1.0 down to 0.0 translates into a 10% increase in rewards.
Agent division = Security, Mining, Distribution, R&D (Security division gives the most standing increase)
Agent type = Basic, Factional Warfare, Storyline, Event (Storyline and Event Agents give Agent, Corporation and Faction standing increase)
Mission type = Encounter, Mining, Courier (Encounter missions give the most standing)
Standings = Higher agent standing gives increased rewards per mission
Social skills = Higher level trained reduces the time spent to gain standings

These various Social skills will modify your Agent, Corporation and Faction standings.
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Item_Database:Skills:Social

Connections skill will raise your current positive standings with Empire. (4% per level)
Criminal Connections skill will raise your current positive standings with Pirate. (4% per level)
Diplomacy skill will raise your current negative standings with all. (4% per level)
Social skill will increase the amount of standings gained for completing missions. (5% per level)
Negotiation skill will increase mission reward and agent effective standing. (5% per level)
Fast Talk skill increases amount of Security Status gained for killing single most highest bounty Pirate NPC every 5 minutes. (5% per level)

Three different skills increase amount of Loyalty Points gained for completing missions per specific Agent Division. (5% per level)

Security Connections
Distribution Connections
Mining Connections

Basically you can easily and quickly access high level agents. How fast depends on the amount of time invested and the factors listed above.

Sorry for the information overload, good luck to you.

1. agree with Xerc ... you are an overachiever DMC.

2. Have they changed the storyline mechanic now? I was always under the impression it was 16 misions of the same level with the same agent type - so a L2 distribution and L1 security would be different "storyline pools" (though 2 L2 security would fill the same "pool")

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

It has always been 16 missions of the same level and faction that go towards the storyline count.

So any mixture of security, mining, distribution, R & D and faction warfare missions, so long as they are all of the same level and for the same faction (corporation is irrelevant) will all count.

Multiple mission storyline chains also add to the count. If the storyline has three parts the first two go towards the count for the next storyline and the third gives the faction standing for that chain

I don't think this was covered: you only ever need to run one level 1 mission to gain access to level 2 missions IF you train Connections 3.

Example: 0.0001 standing

Connections Level 0: 0.0001
Connections Level 1: 0.400096
Connections Level 2: 0.800092
Connections Level 3: 1.200088

Overachiever?

In this game, Information is King and Conversation is it's Queen.

I just posted all the facts pertaining to the topic. I tried to keep the reply concise and to the point.

Anyway, I also said sorry for the information overload.

question, is the level of the storyline mission determined by all of the 16 missions you done or is it dependent on the last mission you did?

It's 16 missions of the same level and faction to get a storyline

So if you do 15 level 1 missions and 1 level 4, then you won't get a storyline. You'll need to do one more level 1 to get a level 1 storyline or 15 more level 4 missions to get a level 4 storyline

I'd expected it to be this anyway.

Don't forget to also run around the tutorial and career agents of your target faction (there's 3 separate sets for each faction), since they dispense quite easy to get FACTION standings after a few fairly trivial missions (easily done by a character who's barely a few days old, and most of them are even doable with a character that's only a few hours old).
You could be looking at L3 agent access standings across the entire faction within a day, and if you grind them all, L4 agent access standings across the entire faction in under a week of (fairly repetitive, but still manageable) work (and L3 access to the "friendly" empire too).

Taking several missions at once from 1 station is a pretty good way to go about it.

Undock, head to 1st, then 2nd etc, redock, complete them all
it saves a little time, not a huge amount, but there is a saving there.

Agent placements makes this very easy to do for L1 and L2 agents
There may be are a few corps with upto 2-3 L3 agents in the same station or System
There aren't any L4 agents positioned like this anymore in hisec

There are also Epic arcs (SoE, and the 4 regular factions) that give a good boost to any one faction when ran
The SoE arc can be repeated every 3 months, allowing you to eventually sidestep lower level missions completely for 1+ factions

Being a new player here, should I train up connections skill first? then seek out my agents to run missions for?

Do them both at the same time (preferably train social + connections whilst your completing the tutorials & epic arc)

Social IV unlocks all the pertinent socials
Connections, Fast Talk, Negotiation & Diplomacy

for the [xyz] Connections skills you'll need other skills training as well
Leadership -> Security Connections
Trade -> Distribution Connections
Industry -> Mining Connections

[edit]
if you complete all 5 tutorial arcs, and the SoE Epic arc @ Arnon
then getting Connections to III should mean you will only ever need to run 1 Level 1 mission for any corp in any faction before gaining L2 mission access.
It's kind of a fast track method of skipping the lowest paying missions.

Diplomacy skill, if you don't already have it trained

or you can do some work for the Minmatar Faction, each Minmatar Storyline mission you complete will give you a little +'ve derived standing with their allies the Gallente

In addition to the above, I will point out that someone aiming for faction standings is better off grinding L3 agents since those missions are over faster, so you get to the story lines sooner, and the story lines aren't blitzed by every capsuleer and their drone so the rewards are still quite high.

Also should you choose to idle away on courier missions, you will need 4200m3 for the largest of L3 courier missions, 1000m3 for the smallest (ie: blockade runner with rigs or expanded cargo hold). L4 courier missions require over 6000m3, I haven't run them for a long time because the ships required are so doggone slow. In Rubicon this gets worse since blockade runners will be so fast!
