Yeah, it was indeed time for a change, but, changing one crappy screen with the avatar for another one?

When you could just place de entire toon in animated 3D?

Say like the 3 of them sitting on captain quarters, race chosen from the last chosen toon on the previous session, when you hover or clic the mouse on one of them he/she might stand up, come closer to the cam, fancy pimp pose, and the relevant data show up on one side, letters slading in a cool way or something, then you clic/hover another one, the previous goes to sit down again, the one you selected gets up, approaches the camera, their data show up, etc.

But no, you exchanged one crappy avatar static image for another one...

Whilst i know what you mean it isn't a particulary great leap forwards.

Who really spends more than about a second on the char selection screen?

Something like this?

People would moan about the graphic demand. To which I would say: "CCP could always allow players to chose between static character screen or fancy 3D animated one". More moaning would ensue.

Just let it be.

Well, don't you have the feeling that since the balance started the expansions are contentless?

Some missile model here, some changes on exploration there, new model here, animation there but where has been those Apocrypha expansions? or Dominion?

I'm not saying that having this game selection animation would be amazing and ad so much content, obviously not, but as I said, it's been a couple of years of lame expansions, tbh these are not expansions, are tweaking patches that include some UI revamp and some cool feature, but not expansions per se.

No body but all games that have a fancy toon have this cool screen selection thingy, and since CCP is changing it, at least make it be at the same level nowdays game's industry.

Yeah, something like that, they've got the material already, the 3D toons, the CQ's, also on the table there is this holographic image of the ship currently in use, they would only need to program where each of the 3 toons should stay on idle, but the animations and places and everything to be used is ingame already.

I'm seeing it in my brain dude xD the last selected toon sitting on the couch LIKE A BOSS, and the other ones one on each corner doing whatever... you clic on the main toon, he gets up, badass look on his face... you clic on the other ones, the main sits down, the one you clic approaches... and all this while on one side of the screen the relevant information hovers around sliding form the side...

Well, ppl complain because ppl love to complain, thats what humans do, they are reluctant to change:
"hey, this tracking thing sucks" but its the best to decloak ships, not to talk to use it to D-scan.
"dood, dafuq, this jump animation makes me dizzy" but it gives immersion to the game, and everyone, ones more than others, like the cool graphics thingy, if you don't, go back to play Quake II...

As you said, ppl should be able to disable it, and use Rubicon's character selection, but for real, when i first heard they where going to change the screen selection i was like wow cool, I'm looking forward to it, but when i saw this new crap i was so disappointed, CCP changed one old crap for a new one, different shape, same smell.

Some EVE subscribers still play on calculators, no 3D for you.

(I believe that was the real reason of 5% subscriptions loss after Incarna which made captain quarters loading mandatory)

If that's the case i'd recommend you a couple of these in RAID 0 http://www.alternate.de/Corsair/Corsair+ForceGS_2,5_SSD_128_GB/html/product/1046599/?

I want profiles in the launcher, that load chars at once, omitting everything else. I know the implications about security here and dont care. Well i wont get my wish (nor a working launcher), and I belive OP has to live with a medicore half assed new character selection screen. Welcome to CCP where all softwaredevelopment guidelines are centered around half assed.

No thanks.

This is a great middle-ground of revamping the antedeluvian character select screen and kind-of-reintroducing the log-on screens we lost with the new launcher.

Loading it down with pointless bling would rather defeat the purpose and just make it annoying in exactly the same way as release-day WIS was annoying.

CCP realized "Jesus Features" were bad after Incarna went horribly wrong. They've pretty much given up on "something huge" in one expansion, and are instead using each expansion as a stepping stone to the "big thing".

The other thing is, CCP has been doing a metric ****ton of backend work the last several expansions (code, ship balancing, tiericide, etc) -- EVE is not one of those games where the new expansion coming out will mean the old stuff is just "old" and will never be touched again by the players or the devs. Yeah, it's not new stuff, but it's the stuff that we were told had to wait for 18 months between Dominion and Incarna (which was a terrible expansion, and a real let down as far as WiS was concerned).

Crucible was the first (and, per CCP, a bit rushed) step in fixing their past mistakes.
Inferno/Retrubution were to fix crimewatch and other horribly broken things (CCP still missed the mark in some regards, but it happens).
Odyssey changed scanning (for the better?) and hacking and stuff ... and some less bad mining ... with the long-term plan of "capsuleer built important stuff" (per Seagull).

Rubicon is apparently expanding the little bits we got in Odyssey, and adding in the first of the structures that appear to center around the "smallholdings" thing CCP had planned last year ... and possibly expanding on some of that vision Seagull shared with everyone at fanfest.

And "all games" also have multiple servers to play on. Some are even PVE-only!Roll

The way I click a character to login has never really bothered me that much, fine the way it is now, fine with the new screen. Now if I could switch characters without having to quit and login again that would be good.

Start wide, expand further, and never look back

This screen looks incomplete to me. Maybe we'll like it better - or at least, we'll be able to judge it better - once it's nearer to completion.

There's real reasons why your Eve character doesn't do /dance.

SSD isn't going to help server-side loads.

and fast character switching would definitely be desirable.
