You should definitely do one about being podded. Yes, I am aware that many people would volunteer to 'assist' as teachers but I am being serious.

Your first podding can be traumatic and it would be good to explain about medical clone updates, jump clone services, lowsec gate camps etc.

While I don't expect CCP To be up that late.

A good US TZ Session would be great. Could someone set something like this up too?

We definitely want to do this. Right now we don't have the resources to do so, but if they prove to be popular we'll find a way to do things at a time that's better for our very large US following. This is part of the reason we are recording all the sessions and will be holding all our organized activities on weekends.

The 16th is a Wednesday. Perhaps in Iceland that qualifies as "weekend", but in the USA it isn't.

My big questions, and likely already asked (at work so ability to scroll through pages of forums is limited)

1. What is to stop people from coming in and interrupting, suiciding folk etc etc
2. Is there potential for this to be held in polaris to prevent/reduce such issues (would be cool)
3. Are non trial/first month players invited? I for one would enjoy covering things officially to make sure ive not missed anything out!
4. Will fitted ships/modules/etc be provided for players? I would imagine some new players will struggle to purchase things?

If these have

1: They have already said no disruption of that nature will be tolerated. Warning first, followed by appropriate GM intervention as the situation warrants. One assumes that goes from banning people from the chat channel up to "possibly" including bans and/or penalties if they refuse to back off.

2: No idea, but it sounds like this will be held on tranquility for ease of access.

3: I think anyone is invited to attend.

4: Good question. They could do it either way, although it would only be necessary for those sections where actual combat is going to happen. Most likely these first classes will only require a frigate (even a noob frigate) to go over the mechanics. More advanced classes involving combat might find a need, although they'll have to be careful that people aren't simply there to milk a free ship.

It is an unwise player who deliberately defies CCP on the field. They have more ways of capture than you have escape.

Will in-channel voice comms be used?

It's not clear from the devblog, there is mention of the sessions being "recorded", so I'm guessing at least the ability to listen in will be required. Will new players require a mic?

If these have

1.) If someone disrupts the fleet... kick them from TS, Kick from Fleet, and primary the fool. Then tackle his POD and hold it there until you are done lecturing, at which point you sacrifice his pod while giving thanks for the target of opportunity!

2.) Such issues are part of the game, and learning how to deal with it is too.

3.) Probably... but that's up to CCP.

4.) I hope not! A big part of learning to PvP is learning to accept the inevitable loss of your ship. A frigate is very cheap, and you can fit a very combat capable frigate for less than 1.5m isk. I see no reason for CCP to supply you with frigs.

True story, we once had a 50-man Frigate gang smartbombed to death in highsec while running one of our classes.. These make good stories, and provide excellent discussion points.

so ive got a question that i havent seen be fielded before

why is this channel not listed under 'Help' section of the channel list? if its a hit it can stay if it flops, cant it be removed?

i have friends who made accounts months ago, and due to operational commitments in Afghanistan, has an extremely limited knowledge of the game, is no longer in any of the starter channels(NPC Corp or Rookie Help) and short of reading concord billboards or his news feed on login page, it seems extremely unlikely he would have found this if he hadnt gotten a hold of me on the FaceBook... and if he was looking for help channels, he would not have found any information about these training sessions. unless its broadcast through all CCP owned channels.

on the subject of billboards... why is there no news feed in the station services window... another point that information could be relayed without requiring one to be in space(specially if under war dec)... and dont tell me that CQ is the only place you want players to find the news feed inside a station.

^^ I would love to see billboards revamped entirely. The one near gates could be very useful both for official news and player-sponsored adverts. Of course they would have to be much larger and higher res. Cost would depend on how busy the system is.

Or make them player-built and destructible with only a suspect flag! Great for recruitment. And put one behind the spinning ship (should probably make this optional or the vets would have an absolute conniption).

Um, I got a bit carried away there. Smile You can probably tell I would like to see them changed. So much wasted immersion possibility...

This is a fantastic idea!

I have been playing since 2007 and have recently been thinking about creating videos for new players including indepth looks at weapons, tanking, careers and other various thinks.

Lo and behold 2 days after writing up some documentation for this you guys announced new player training sessions.

I would love to get involved in any way i can and help CCP help new players out. I am not a well known community figure. Im not part of any awesome alliance like EvE-uni, but i would still love to get involved.

How does one go about this and are there any requirements?

Did you guys at CCP steal this idea off us?
we do noobie training at least once a month, taking them to null to hunt people down and teach them how to fight/fly.

maybe we could offer our training to players outside of CAS if our big guys like it.

oh yes we do missions and mining ops to train them too

I think new player training is a great idea, but having it at 1700 UTC on a Friday is an odd choice. Why not make it a weekend day so that folks who work can join? That's 10AM Friday where I live (US Pacific time). I know these things take time to plan, so all the more puzzling why a more appropriate time wasn't chosen.

I live in Hawaii and this puts the training at 7a.m. I am getting ready to work then.

Is there a link to where these sessions will be available to those who cannot attend the seminars?

Hey everyone! The EVE Community Team is launching a new initiative designed to help new players get into EVE and learn how the world works faster and more efficiently. We're calling this initiative the Avengers Initiative. Wait, no. I mean it's the New Player Training Sessions!

Read all about it in this dev blog.

Where are these pages on EVElopedia? It is the 16th, so I assume the first session is in the bag.

Oh my Jesus you guys should contact VICE magazine right away.

They could do an article like this:

There are some games, way back when, that you needed a manual for. a whole book.
Nowadays, games are so stupidly simple, that you can learn the basics in the furst tutorial mission, or just on the fly.

In EVE, we are so hardcore.. We are the grittiest of gamers, powering through the hardcoreiest of games that ever there was, EVE ONLINE! WE.... aree....... EVE!!!! DOOFDOOFDOOFDOOFDOOF

em.
wat i meant was, this is the first game where the game designers need to take potential recruits and train them in a boot camp, in order to be able to play the game.

I love it.

Come pLayY.
