I figure they are all CCP alts feeding the fires for fun and profit.

Wait.... I lied. I get mad about THREE things, in the whole world:

1. Nerfing stuff. "Buff all the things/nerf nothing" is my motto.
2. Nullsec makes me angry because it badtouched me, last time I was there.
3. Running out of rum.

I have to say i like your optimistic outlook. The theory that CCP are actively seeking bronies, furries and carebears with anger management issues to give us all something to shoot at /mock /feel better than might help me sleep better at night.

I look at the inquisition, pol pot, 3rd reich, stalins soviet union, mccarthyism, sudan, congo, northern ireland......i could pretty much go on for ever listing pretty much every hisorical event.
The people that are happy to plan and/or help carry out such evil seem to be very easy to find and crop up wherever they are needed. The human mind is capable of great self delusion so we can praise the heros of the french resistance and curse the evil taliban road side bombers with no hint of cognitive dissonance. We can question the mindset of the 11/9 bombers and not question the bombs we drop from drones on civilians every day (in an alarming number of countries).
The only conclusion is that people capable of these things are all around us and i try and avoid too much contact with people that seethe with rage, erupt in anger at the smallest thing (like their retriever blowing up) and strongly hold irrational and profoundly unscientific views.
Anyway my view is that there is no need for CCP to actively seek these people as a significant fraction of the human race is like this but do a good job of hiding it in their day to day lives.
I suggest you all go with Erotica's explanation as mine has lead me to drink far more than is healthy.

It's entirely possible that you saw an ad that was actually different from the one I think you are referring to, but in the "Be The Villain" ad I have in mind, it actually says some other very important things before it says "Be The Villain". You see it as a "Be The Villain" ad, but maybe you should go back and look at it again. Maybe try stepping out of your space persona. Maybe even try stepping into a different space persona for a moment, one someone might construct if they were raised watching Captain Kirk and Luke Skywalker run around trying to save the galaxy. We don't all fantasize about being Darth Vader. Some of us have even been Darth Vader and would like to escape that, if only in a video game.

I think your question has a very deep and meaningful answer, and I think it is illuminated by answering this much simpler question: What does a "hero" do in the face of failure and impotence?
