That's a window title bar from what appears to be an X11 window manager of some kind.

Here's a screenshot from my Mac. Obviously photoshopped, but you just can't get good help these days: http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/2459/22hb.png

A couple suggestions.

The layout is different and this will affect returnees and such.

First - add some mouse-over info on the various portions of the displayed details. ("undocked", isk symbol, etc.)
Second - add a customization section to the initial options (esc menu); IMO - general tab or a new one. or a right-click menu.

Allow people to specify their own color tones and such - nothing hyper fancy, a fairly simple drop-down menu to pick colors - maybe put in an option on what is seen (animated image or not, full body or not)...

Some folks have issues with different color pallets so let them decide what they would like to see and it should resolve any "would like to see more of my char" and "not too much!" concerns. Let it default to as you have it but let them adjust it a bit as they see fit.

The character information pane has info about current skill in training (for each character), skill queue duration, current ISK, unread mail and notifications, the current ship the capsuleer is aboard, and the current location.

Too much customisation could be a bad thing. We've had CCP setting the tone of the login and character selection pages for 10 years, why change now?

So....

Is that a yes or no on being able to switch characters without logging off ?

If not, then its just eye candy without the additional functionality that everyone has been asking about for years...

and it will have sound too :D

all brand new, but one thing is old and I'm sure you all missed her voice while logging in. (for those who play with sound of course, the rest of you can just pffft off - or at least turn it on once and just .. ah . . bah! who am I fooling. )

OK, just logged onto SiSi and these are my thoughts:

1) Great you didn't put a mirror on...was testing Marauders so \O/ thank you

2) The Char Selection Screen looks pretty sweet. My only gripe so far is that the Chars are in alphabetical order. What about putting them in Skill Point order? This would put my main on the Left and I'd know it was my Main. Now this isn't really an issue for me after having the same Char for so many years but for the other guys out there Left - Right is how we read and is just logical.

3) Keeping the focus on last logged in Char is great. Love that idea.

I'm looking forward to see the changes that are yet to come with this screen.

Nice work thus far CCP Sisyphus | Team Kuromaku | Team Klang

EDIT: Bring back Aura so say something like "Entering environment Capsuleer" or even better "Welcome back Maximus". That wouldn't be too hard would it and would get us right in the mood. Lol

having Aura say your name, Uhm.. that will take a while to get working.
;) would require a different system, so the voice would actually change, and that would probably require five full time jobs in just replying to all the complaints from that :D

Any system employed to pronounce more or less strange names will fail.

Regardless of actually using a computer.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

What happened to the original person who did the "Aura" voice? Can we get her back for a few days?

Hello Devs,

Is there any way you can place a countdown timer that shows how long you have until dual character training expires? Right now there is no way to check besides writing down the date you activated dual character training on a post-it note. It's a super anoying problem that you can solve on the cool new character screen, we have been talking about this issue in the feature/ideas section here:

That was an idea, and we have been iterating on it a lot - but the actress who performed it, doesn't work as a voice actress anymore (so I'm told), she moved to the US and some other things.
So it would have to be for a few days for sure, but to make it all fit together, it would most likely require that all the voices were re-done and not just anything new.

But yea, that could work - it's not up to me, but we will most likely discuss it again.

That too, anything out of the ordinary would sound terrible - and EVE players tend to have out of the ordinary names as well as combinations that would be impossible to mix without it sounding like two separate recordings. It could (COULD!) be done with synthesis, but again, anything out of the ordinary would sound terrible and if it didn't sound terrible, that synthesis algorithm for voicing would be worth quite a lot of money.

not agaisnt this change as it isnt anything game changing and i only look at it for a few secconds while logging in, having said that...

it dont like it tbh, probably because im used to the same one for almost 3 years and the layout will take getting used to. Im sure after a couple weeks with it in tq i will end up prefering it

You could put out a contest, of sorts, amongst the player base for your voice acting needs.
Describe how the NPC needing a voice actor and take submissions form the players, chose the best 10~20 or so and take a vote amongst the rest of the players for the best voice for the NPC.
Once a winner has been chosen you could send the dialog for voice acting and then iteration. Of course this would take a while but I'm sure there are many who would like it.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

i am wondering. will those banners come back? ads with plex offers and stuff? Or will they stick to the launcher?

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTDC70SLgXk is a much better airport name announcement prank. Mr Terry Wrist and Mr Al Kyder order tickets, don't show up and get paged at a major Australian airport.

There'd be issues with unpronouncable names (ZZZAFK CloakyZZZ), 'sneakily' obscene names (Far Queue) or offensive/libelous names.

I feel the actual colour scheme of dark red looks a little bad but I can only assume that's expansion specific.

Will there be a replacement for news? the character selection screen was the last page to hold any news articles.
