Somebody activated a kill right on me

But I'm not sure why. I was moving one of my jump clones out of Jita when the message popped up that a kill right had been activated.

Rather thrilling to be honest! But what was the point given that Zappity has been rather naughty lately and has a criminal security status?

Is there something I'm missing about kill rights or was this superfluous?

You naughty girl.

You need to be punished.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

The average high-sec player is dumb and doesn't know about game mechanics.

While true ... pretty much a KR is "CONCORD sanctioned revenge" ... if it's activated by someone, they get a 15 min timer wherein to kill you.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Thanks all. So 'just highsec' is the answer. Figures.

Was it by any chance a very expensive killright, that was owned by one of your alts?

I hear that can work out well for all parties involved, especially if you shoot one of your alts, get them to put a 3b KR on you, and then pilot an empty freighter around. Your alt gets 3b, you get a killright removed from you and a freighter insurance payout, and your attackers get to violence a boat and get rid of some of that ISK that's burning a hole in their wallet.

You go flashy when your KR is activated, which is visible in local. If you then kill the Suspect you get a killmail with an extra picture. That's about it really.

Hello Velicitia the average high-sec player.

Average hisec player (according to you) is "dumb and doesn't know about game mechanics"
Vel (me) is aware of this particular mechanic (and more! gasp!Shocked)

Therefore, I am an "Average hisec player" Cry

Though, yeah, at -7.9, there is no need to activate a KR on Zappity... seeing as she's KOS in hisec

would love to be living out in null ... but RL makes that "difficult" ("oh sorry guys, have to be gone for a month or three" isn't exactly great)

That's what I like about lowsec. Easy PvP that suits the casual playstyle that I have no intention apologising for. The concept of CTA timers for a game doesn’t sit well with me - they're hard enough when I get paid for it!

You don't have to live in low-sec to enjoy freedom, I too would never join a corp or alliance that has CTAs with mandatory participation.

Should definitely try lowsec then ...

Good to hear. How would a typical null corp deal with someone who, say, travels a lot for work? And then actually likes spending time with their family when they're at home?

So I might log in for an hour once or twice during the week, maybe a bit more on the weekends. And then not at all for a couple of weeks.

But there probably isn't a 'typical null corp'. I'm not trolling btw - I've been thinking about what sort of corp I should look at for small gang PvP.

The same as a typical low-sec corp. If you announce your absence, there will never be a problem (except if you are in a corp full of shitlords who value Eve over RL).
