Battleships are okay. The only issue they really have is tackling. The lock times are absurdly slow vs a battlecruiser and properly fit there's not usually room for a sebo. Brutix has more than double the scan res as a mega, why?.

In PvP gangs I have no idea why they don't use them, I imagine its the issue with tracking and sig radius for guns and large missile respectively.

If you consider the following:

T2 Armor Buffered Thorax:
34k EHP
409 DPS
1618 m/s
8.4 second align time

T2 Armor Buffered Brutix
77k EHP
513 DPS
991 m/s
9.6 align time

T2 Armor Buffered Megathron
119k EHP
838 DPS
944 m/s
10.8 align time

They seem relatively balanced in terms of EHP / DPS / Speed and align time. Mega is only a little more than 2 seconds slower than a Rax to align.

Problem is that running a BS without at least one large nuet is suicide imo. So the actual dps drops down quite a lot. Brutix has an additional high for its neut.

In the upcoming expansion RHML might see battleships being used again in PvP if the RHML is any good which it likely will be against smaller ships, reducing or eliminating the tracking, sig issues that battleships currently have in solo / small gang pvp.

Be nice to also have the option of Medium Turret Batteries for battleships, turret version of the RHML :)

I used to fly ravens and rokh's around lowsec, not after i trained for nighthawk though. The problem with them was their extremely limited engagement profile so the only way to have fun in them is to scout out a bunch of BC's having a jolly gate camp and bust in on them. Almost guaranteed to end in a pod for you but a great chance to inflict same amount of damage to them too, isk wise. The most glorious battle for me was torp/neut/buffer raven vs 2 canes, drake, deimos and a tartanis, they acted so stupid and melted so nicely that it brought a tear in my eye Blink on the other hand i had done that a few dozen times and that was the only time i got out with my ship intact.

Also cant wait for the next patch with them rapid hml's, might bust out the raven again!

Mention Battleships and my local has a Megathron again! Lol Whoever says BS are seldomly used in small gang PVP should come visit one day. Actually, the thing with Battleships is that in my experience they simply need some support to be truly effective. Sure, the cookie-cutter fits are nice, but two specialized BS's covering each other and having logi support... different story.

While it's not very common, there are enough players using a BS for lowsec PVE, even ratting belts. Either they know their craft (running anomalies) and have a ton of bookmarks, safes, undocks, POS etc, or they are horribly inept and should offer very little challenge to a BS intended for PVP. Should you encounter the odd PVP fitted roamer, you are in for one hell of a fight and multiple opponents may soon be incoming.

Unfortunately, anyone who can't kill you can outrun you, so you're relying on dumb guys engaging when they shouldn't. This is why I seldom use my Geddon.

This is the reason why undocking in a battleship is a fruitless effort. EVE has moved on, and there simply aren't retards anymore that will engage your BS in their canes and Drakes so you could make an "epic solo Hype" fraps. You either get 0 fights because you can't lock a single ship before it warps off, or then you get dropped or blobbed.

Medium guns and/or drones are best for small gang PVP.
Imho best BSs for the job are active dual repped (normal+ancillary rep) BSs that use drones/enuts like domi and BS that can slow down target to compensate for poor tracking of L guns like vindi. In order of importance I would focus on following in your spot:
1.Good active tank (>50k EHP pasive part plus active tanking which means focus on resists.)
2.Massive damage (should aim at 800dps+ of paper dps)
3.EWAR supprise (neut, tr destrupt, EC- drone)

I had biggest problem taking down double/tripple repped domi with ful lrack of neuts and drone damage mods.
