Hi Everyone

A method of using ships with Ship Maintenance Arrays in order to avoid combat was recently patched out, you will no longer be able to switch ships from a SMA (specifically the Orca) while you are under an aggression timer in High Security space. This will still work in Low and Null Security space.

Please use this thread to post any comments or questions you have about this change.

Screw you ccp. cant you announce future changes/nerfs that require long skilling for alts with ships and mechanics not long enough in advance. the second time you hit me with skilling for special things in eve and once i have skilled it is worthless. nice way you treat your paying customers.

The role of the Orca as a mining support vessel has not been changed in any and as that was it's designed purpose we would not consider this change anything other than a bug fix.

Poor little can flippers. Now you will have to bite the bullet and die with honour to my battle indi alt rather than getting your orca to bail you out with a t2 cruiserTwisted

I don't think any serious ninja who used an Orca for the purpose of swapping ships after getting a mission running bear to shoot at their frigate is surprised at this; it's been a great ride while it lasted. Already we have developed tactics to deal with this new limitation so I hope there are alot of bears emboldened by this nerf that feel brave enough to shoot.
However, what really pisses us ninjas off, and I'm sure quite a few other types of players who use the Orca for other than it's mining purpose is how CCP FAILED once again in the customer service category. Why wasn't this nerf announced in the past? A devblog that had a footnote saying this technique was going to be nerfed in the future would have saved many people the aggravation of training an Orca alt for the sole purpose of supporting this playstyle. At the VERY least it should have been mentioned in the patch notes that accompanied the patch for God's sake.
CCP knows that a large secondary use of the Orca is to provide a mobile base for operations other than mining.
For GM Haggis to suggest to a ninja character then they shouldn't forget that they can continue to use their Orca alt for mining instead of supporting a more nefarious playstyle (that is endorsed by CCP themselves) shows either a staggering lack of comprehension, or total indifference to long term plans made by players based on a ships feature.

Oh nice silent nerf you did there CCP fellas, its a shame that you have to abide by such lowly techniques...
I know Roll that Eve is too full of griefers and that kids want WoW in space but peace and love isnt what defines this game.
Scanning and this was a good kick in the nuts, do we at least keep aggro extension or will you go **** that up too? I do not like the direction in which this game is going and Eve becoming like the rest of MMOs wont save your budget either.

PS: It would be really nice if your half page long patch notes included important changes like this, we had to wait 3 days to get the new about whether its a bug or you guys backstabbing us.

Griefer tears are the best tears. What's the matter douchebags? Butthurt that you won't be able to exploit game mechanics to have fun at the expense of others anymore? null and lowsec is where the real men play.

IMO ccp picked exactly the wrong way to fix it. Limiting choices in a game that promotes itself as a sandbox is simply wrongheaded. The orca is the swiss army knife of the game -- whatever its original role -- the ships flexibility has allowed it to be used in many different ways. This sort of unforseen use of a ship should be promoted by ccp. But uses should be balanced by risk. Here - hot swapping was a problem because the orca didnt assume aggro. CCP should have simply let its players to continue to use the orcas as they see fit, but make it so that use was balanced by the risk of losing the ship in combat, i.e. that the hot swap caused the orca to acquire aggro.

>SSo what, now CCP's expected to tell people when they're going to patch exploits? The only disappointing part about all this is that you can still launch a ship from the cargo, board it while aggressed, and scoop the original ship into the cargo.

It was an abuse of aggression mechanics. They've provided an (inadequate) patch for it -- which is their job. If you trained an alt so you could abuse this, you got exactly what you deserved. Character Bazaar is that way. ==>>

It's not really a problem in lowsec or nullsec -- just attack the Orca. The issue is how this mechanic interacts with CONCORD protection.

Edit: Though I could see abuse of the docking timer becoming an issue. My suggestion is to flag the orca or carrier that scoops an aggressed ship with an aggression timer.

Though until they've fixed the workaround described earlier, it's really quite irrelevant.

It's not an abuse if the game lets you do it.

Should I be mad if a war target docks his ship and drops corp to avoid being killed? The moment he drops corp, he ceases to be a shootable target. There's no 24 cool down or anything of the sort. If CCP wants to patch methods one can employ to "avoid combat" (GM Haggis's own words), then they need to be comprehensive about it.
