The lines connecting "trained" portions of the tree to "untrained" portions of the tree are a little faint.

The hysteresis in ISIS content tracking mouse movement is annoying. I would prefer much less "momentum" or no momentum at all.

There is insufficient indication of which races' ships I can fly: the Ship Tree panel that pops up (which I didn't even notice until I realised that only Gallente ships were displayed) shows all factions with equal priority. It would be nice if factions were highlighted or muted in some way to indicate which faction ships I do or do not have the skills to fly. Thus, for example, as a pilot with Minmatar and Gallente piloting skills suitable for Minmatar frigates, destroyers and cruisers and suitable for Gallente frigates and destroyers, I should have some indication that there are Gallente, Minmatar and Angel Cartel ships accessible with my skill set.

The Ship Tree panel does not show up well when ISIS content is underneath it. Strategies I use for translucent terminal windows on OS X (just as an example) include adding blurriness and increasing the opacity, to allow the text in the terminal window (or in this case, the Ship Tree panel) to be discernible above background noise (such as the lines and graphics of the ISIS content).

ISIS needs more cowbell… I mean radial menus. I dislike the "click on something to make a new window appear" workflow, and I intensely dislike the "mouse-over, then try to mouse up and to the left to click on something else to make a new window appear while an animation happens in the background." This UI feels like it was developed by engineers.

Here is how I would do it: click on a ship icon in ISIS content to bring up a radial menu containing options: "view model", "show info", "view market details", "show in contracts", etc. Display the fly-by preview for the duration of the radial menu being open.

I don't like the "tooltip" hovering over icons in such a way that I cannot mouse back up to a different row of ships if I inadvertently mouse down to a different row of ships. Replacing the tooltip with a radial menu entry should alleviate this issue. Otherwise consider moving the mouse-over information somewhere else and removing the interactive portion of that display.

Perhaps link from the currently displayed faction's ships to other compatible factions, especially where the pilot has the ability to fly those other faction ships. Thus from the Caldari tree link to Worm from the Caldari Frigate skill, Gila from the Caldari Cruiser skill and Rattlesnake from the Caldari Battleship skill. Clicking on those skills would switch to the Guristas tree (since clicking on the ships opens up the radial menu). You already have the Caldari and Gallente ships shown on the Guristas view.

My CDO demands that you line up the pirate factions with the empire factions that they fall between, or at least try to put some order into their display. Thus the Sanshas logo should appear under and between the Amarr and Caldari logos, Guristas between Caldari and Gallente, Angel between Gallente and Minmatar. Of course this gets confusing when Angel, Serpentis and ORE have Gallente and Minmatar heritage (even if ORE ships don't require Gallente & Minmatar skills).

Thank you for being patient with me as I complain loudest about the work that you were proudest of. Cry

(CDO: it's like OCD, but all the letters are in alphabetical order, like they should be)

ISIS seems to be confused about the requirements for flying Sanshas ships: the top row shows Amarr as it should, the bottom row shows Gallente instead of Caldari.

It would be really nice to have an ISIS view that shows what ships I can fly by various mastery levels. Then I could ask ISIS, "hey ISIS, show me ships that I have mastery level 3 for" and it would show me … um … hang on a sec, I don't have mastery level 3 to fly anything? What is this nonsense?

Show me the ships I have mastery level 2 for?

Ah, that's better. I like flying the Osprey because I love asymmetrical ships. So let's see what I need for mastery level 3 on the Osprey … [and off I go to disappear into the rabbit hole of training for mastery, having found that I am missing key skills that a large number of ships require for level 3 mastery]

I can confirm this is the case for me as well. Repairing the Sisi client and repatching has not solved the problem.

You are missing the Daredevil in the Serpentis ships also.

To be honest i was more of a fan of the hologram look shown at fanfest than the icon look. it gave ALOT more sense of scale, and really highlighted the physical differences from one ship to another.

Additionally i noticed that if you dock with ISIS open, the station background replaces the ISIS background awkwardly. However closing and reopening ISIS fixes the issue.

I will play with it a bit more as time goes on and will report back any notes i have. :)

The sidebar icon has a different style from the other sidebar icons

The flyby effect in the background is cool, but too short, the angle from which the ships are shown does not show the complexity of many models (Gallente or ORE ships are much better)

there is no keyboard navigation (at least integrate the directional keys)

dragging the whole thing only works when dragging empty space, but not when dragging a panel

i like holograms

google maps tought me to scroll towards the screen to zoom in, the ISIS works the other way around, why is that ?

wouldn't some kind of integration of the compare tool make sense ?

opening the map hides the Station Services, opening the ISIS does not

undocking while the ISIS is open does something different than opening the ISIS while in space

some kind of "you are really really close to having mastery X for ship Y and should consider training it" may, or may not be useful (showing low hanging fruit)

i don't like the way industrial ships are presented vs the way combat ships are presented (in the racial shiplines). currently you are using a <-ish structure, a V-ish structure may be more appropriate

Currently not working whilst docked up. Working as intended?

When you view as ship, where it moves past in the background, that is awesome. I think perhaps it should be more obvious or happen when you simply click on them. Also, it could use being a lot slower so that it can be appreciated.

That's a pretty good idea, and will help a lot with masteries

The position of the tree is wrong most of the time, also we need a way to move the camera on the ships appearing on the background. You need to find a way to have a price tag for supers also.

And I don't know at all what you will put on the placeholder buttons.

Maybe you should also do a little something for modules ; you give info to ships, but nothing for modules.
You could put some tree on the naming convention for meta and such, or other visual help on how some modules are better than others.
How about adding on the ship tree informations on the basic choice of weapon and defense, linked to his bonus? Like a little icon for heavy/ham missiles and shields for the drake for example, which link to either the mastery or the item

a little detail i don't like is how it centers the tree on the screen when you open it. The rookie ship is in the screen center and 90% of the tree is off screen. I think it would make a better first impression if you would put the rookie ship on the bottom left of the screen (not completely at the bottom but you know what i mean). This would be the initial position, the next time you open the tree it would remember the position and zoom level. (UI persistence)

testcase:
you look at the BC group and switch race

expected:
tree updates and you see the BC group of selected race, zoom and tree position does not change

current:
tree position and zoom level resets, you see a rookie ship and have to find the BC group again

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I'd like to give feedback on this feature but it's completely broken for me (as in nothing happens when I click its icon).

I think the thing that's bugging me most about this feature is that you can't zoom out far enough to see the entire tree for a given race/faction unless you completely turn off the rest of the UI.

Agreed with Ctaus - it would be really cool to be able to make the ship cross-sections scale to each other so you can see how big one ship is compared to another.

After looking back through the other replies I found that the tree doesn't work when in CQ view. I switched to hanger view and could see it. I'm assuming this is a bug that will be corrected.

I'll echo two things that others have said; it would be very nice if the view was zoomed out enough when initially opened so that you could see the entire tree. I also really like the idea of applying the radial menu here. It would be a perfect fit usability-wise. Lastly, other UI elements get in the way and make certain buttons inaccessible (in my case the faction icons due to where I have my local channel window placed).

I truly hate to sound like one of those curmudgeons but, from my standpoint, this new view seems more about form than function. It's more cumbersome to use when I just need to quickly check what level I have various ships trained to. Looking at a simple list under the Spaceship Command category is a lot faster. I'll concede that having the ship progression presented visually in this fashion will likely make things more clear for newer players but, for me, it's a step backwards.

Overall, I suppose the benefits to newer players outweigh the minor inconveniences for veterans. I hope you'll consider the zoom issue and radial menu adoption suggestions. Those changes would add greatly to this feature's usability.

When the world is running down, you make the best of what's still around.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but the ability to navigate with the keyboard would be much better.

  • Use the directional keys to center a ship on your screen
  • Ship name and attributes show up automatically once the ship is centered on screen
  • Hit Enter to open the 'Show Info' window

i am wondering if you guys plan to do do something similar for weapon systems.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value
