Speaking of it not being a change:

If, in fact, this was longstanding policy, why does the Knowledge base article tell users to check to confirm the identity of someone who claims to be an alt, rather than telling them to report those people for impersonation?

Ok, so, seeing as the current terms of service can be used to easily and effectively grief people (I can go get like, ten people banned tomorrow for this just from the crap in my various inboxes), how about we revert this in the meantime?

The dam hasn't broken yet on this, but it's cracking. The number of people I see in trade hubs, or even randomly around systems, trying to bait you into saying that you are XYZ's alt so they can petition you is pretty ridiculous.

Despite their statements to the contrary, it sounds like CCP is acting/revising policies on the behest of companies like SOMERblink and the scams that have them in an uproar. This sort of activity has clearly been tolerated in the past: Northern Coalition, Northern Coalition./NCDot, the various plays on names Goonfleet, etc. And those are just a few the recognized names.

Not that I have a problem with the policy. In fact, I think CCP should crack down on many types of scams that rely on BS schemes. Doing so would create a legitimate marketing use of local in the trade hubs, versus having only scammers shouting out their scams.

Still, just sayin' it's kinda disingenuous to say, "this has always been our policy", when it hasn't.

I hate to say it, but when you let foxes in your hen house and then pat the foxes on the back and tell them they are unique for thinking outside of the box, when really they are only doing that which is natural to them. You deserve every stomach ache you get because you have no meat or eggs to eat.


CCP you should just set a solid stone rules set with no ability for others to twist or stretch the wording. Every time someone or group of people think of new ways to "steal the chickens" it is always at first regarded as new and great use of craftiness, but then eventually rules have to be changed and CCP has to devote more time wasted on re-writing and taken back there own rules so the games environment doesn't get thrown out of balance.

there have been hundreds if not thousands of other MMO's out there, you don't see them reworking there EULA's or ToS every other expansion release.

I was checking this thread later-- the TOS thing happened *after* the summit. There'll be stuff in the winter minutes.
