Spamming , a idea

Well I started off writing this post to complain about Jita SPAM . but towards the end I had a idea and I went with it.

I watch each day as dozens of people decide to copy paste stuff over and over and over in extremely short amounts of time.

The issue is it hurts the game, new people come in Jita and are just disgusted by the flood of crud in Local..

Also a see people hours at a time spamming the same thing over and over not to mention amazing with pinpoint timing, so its always spaced evenly, Yes these are macro and bots users.

It has gotten to the point where people I see are using macro and or bots just to spam gibberish to annoy other players and also they somehow bypass the chat restrictions, The restriction is the one when you enter text too fast for about 3 times it doesn't let you enter any more for about 30 seconds..

I have over 15,800 people on my block list sadly it barely makes a dent, I constantly see local flooded sometimes to the point I can't even click the persons name to block them because its pushed off the page so fast.

I know this sounds insane, but please think about it, After the next expansion hits and its stable, Can CCP do a expansion based on 100 % improving the player experience? No new ships, no new balancing weapons, no new contents,

I ask that CCP makes it stuff nicer, working on a way so certain types of petitions are handled faster . make it harder for spammers or bots (including the mining bots, macro ratters etc)

What does everyone think?

It's not hard to tell that a lot of them are bots, they spam local in 1-5 minute increments exactly. I seen this just from looking at the time stamps in my first two days there. After you block 20 or so most of the spam goes away, though I am probably closer to 200 blocked now lol. P

I feel like since the incarna debacle, the expansions have all been focued on improving the player experience. Its about time we got a few meaty features.

And I don't know why you care about Jita local.

Only 200? Damn, I hit 500 not too long ago.

And that's with spending most of my time in a place where local chat is frowned upon.

Why even bother having the local window open when entering Jita? I generally just close it or ignore it.

Some sort of system would be nice where you can report a player for botting and after x amount of reports the account is automatically banned or the player is permanently marked as an outlaw. To prevent anyone from using it as a griefing tool it would need a huge number, like a few hundred individual reports and having to be in the same system when reporting. Then again, EVE players always find a way to exploit things.

"an idea".

"An" is used before words starting with h,a,e,i,o or u.

It's not rocket surgery, really.

EvE has corps and alliances with several thousand people in them. There are coalitions with tens of thousands.

"A few hundred individual reports" are not "a huge number."

I'd settle for chat filters ... let me block: PLEX, double, trade window, etc. and 98% of the spam is gone.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Cribba's little project didn't prove much of anything. Somehow people equate copy and paste with bots. It's ridiculous.

I thought you were one of those crazies all against bot like behavior? What do you call copy and pasting the same thing over and over again every minute on the minute exactly for 23.5 hours a day?

Bot aspirant. But I didn't say that did I. You added that and assumed. I have a message that I paste, with tons of individualized chats in between. I may be one of the New Order's biggest supporters, but I'm not Amish.

Chribba's project only counted number of posts and count of most common phrases. This ignores all of the actual conversations happening in between. I agree with you that others do likely use automated methods in trade hubs. But merely recording certain elements of local and drawing leap of faith conclusions is not helpful. Chribba had good intentions with what he did, but it was poorly executed. Because he is Chribba, lots of people lauded him for the project without looking at its merits. The reason people spam local chat is that's where the isk is, just like there's a reason people pay for tiny classified ads over and over every month in the classified sections of magazines (and other advertising for that matter.) Educate the population, and you will solve the problem by making the spam unprofitable. Merely cast a wide net that includes tons of false positives and you just spin your wheels.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

Soon(tm) unless CCP does something about it first - in which case mission success either way.

@Erotica, poorly executed? Not sure what you mean by it because the research showed exactly what it was supposed to, that a huge part of the spam was made by bots/macros.

And tbh, if a person uses a macro or similar, posting exactly every 43 seconds with their "click my contract" PLUS add random talk inbetween those macro lines - the fact still stands - big part of the spam is done by macros. Since I have yet to come by a single pilot that spams 23.5/7 by hand, and with such accurate timings. So regardless of them speaking in-between or not they're still causing unwanted spam.

However, feel free to do this research right since I'd be happy to see my views altered that the spam(oh sorry chat) is not a problem in places like Jita.
