The idea is simple once deployed drones act as a barrier against attacks. So if you are targeted and shot at the defender drone intercepts the shot and takes the damage for you for you. Targeting and damage profile would be for the target but drone ehp and resists would take the damage. Ewar including points ecm etc would still function on the main target.

errr... a geddon with bay full of these and a full armour tank would be annoyingly difficult to destroy. like REALLY annoyingly difficult.

a bit OP'd on droneboats.

edit-dear god, the carriers.

How about fixing up defender missiles so they are actually viable? Mayble giving them a burst AoE that only effects missiles and would be good against a whole volley of missiles? Defender drones don't sound very practical or "realistic" unless one could argue these drones use ewar to "trick" enemy turrets into locking them instead of your ship and therefore tanking the shots with speed and low sig, which in turn would make them op. Or even just making them a defense against missiles leads back to the idea of revamping defender missiles.

Exactly what I was thinking. It would be like... "Erm.... That Doomsday looks so... OH NOES... MY DRONE. Its okay, my Thanny has another 19999 of them"

Lets assume that each drone had a small fraction of ehp like on the 25-50 range , they would all be suseptable to smartbombs .. and that for discussion sake is only avaiable on subcaps.. could these drones add to make an interesting gameplay?

If it was 125m3 in size. And could only protect from missiles and other drones.

So each one would have a certain EHP and once that was gone it would hit the ship? If that's the case I don't see a large problem unless it's on carriers. Drone EHP is minimal until you get to heavy drones, and even those are around 3k.

So if they halve the EHP, only have light, medium and heavy versions I don't see a large problem. On drone boats they're main damage comes from drones, so having drones that don't attack and only defend reduces their attack abilities. Even if it's used as a single flight to give them a few extra seconds of tank.

Basically it just gives a little extra tank at the expense of doing no damage with drones. The only way around this even slightly would be to have remote reppers on the ship to keep the defenders alive but then it has literally no offensive capabilities save electronic warfare.

On carriers it could be OP if they fill their bay with them, but I would imagine only seeing that on ratting carriers. Overall it would see niche usage and only be marginally more popular then defender missiles.

+1 on actually fixing the mechanism for doing missile defence instead of adding a new one.
