Ace here, I've been doing some FWs as recommended by the Eve community on my prior forums for entry-level pvp.
As mentioned above, I've been doing FW a few weeks and I believe I've had my fair share of "sitting on my ass; spam dscan" days.

Venturing out back and forth from my home base into offensive territory is a pain in the ass (given that no one man could stay alive in a frigate forever. A few hours at most in my caseSad) and sitting around in plexs for upto 30+ minutes is also a dull/repetitive process. I won't lie though, the LP is pretty darn good if i manage to find a quite system to sit in... but then again, as soon as I land I can't help but to roll my eyes and light a cigarette while spamming dscan for the duration of the timer.... Not fun

I was looking into "better" (fun but challenging gameplay that would also yield a lot of isk) and stumbled across from reads non Pirate missions and LP....

To cut the chase, here are some question regarding Pirate mission running.

1) will serpentis and angel missions murder my standings in caldari? I really don't give a flying f*** for other empires.
2) if I decide to relocate to a agent in 0.0 with such missions...
2a) how long will I be in, or near the system? (A question with direct interest to 2b)
2b) if I'll be staying a while what should I bring? (Ships, isk, ship equipment, the whole 9yrds)
3) what would be the ideal ship for L4 pirate mission running? <--- yah troll me on this, but I just want an opinion
4) offensive plexing vs pirate missions... LP value and effort wise, which is more worth it???

Thanks a bunch

Pirate missions do affect your high sec standings. However. If you are selective about which missions you choose to run you can avoid taking a huge hit to your caldari standings. Avoid running missions that require you to kill caldari npcs and you wont take much in the way of hits to standing. Also avoid running the story line missions. These murder your standings.

Generally, you can even run some of the missions that require you to kill caldari npcs as long as you are doing only the ones requiring you to shoot a few frigates to complete it (The Assault is a good example). These hardly affect standings at all.

If you intend to run missions in serpentis space, for example, you probably would want to consider a nullified tengu. Yes the DPS sucks. But since you will have great difficulty in replacing lost ships that deep you really cant afford to be without your mission boat. A nullified tengu can go thru bubbles and avoid camps, hidden cloaky dudes sitting on the gate, whatever with virtual impunity. While you wont be able to murder the mission rats as easily you will be able to run all of the blitzable missions easily and make money with little interference from the locals who may not appreciate your presence in their systems.

I have run missions for serpentis, angels and guristas. If you are running missions for any of these you are probably going to be hunted by everyone in the area. Both for tasty kill mails as well as preservation of the values of their loyalty points. Dont expect to be loved by the locals. You wont be. They will do everything they can to kill you and to prevent you from running "Thier" missions.

Keep in mind that running pirate missions in NPC 0.0 is not piracy.

Piracy is related to PvP

Any storyline mission will impact your standings with just about everybody. An old, out-of-date table of inter-NPC-faction standings is documented here: http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Standings#Standing_Relationships

The numbers will have changed significantly since that one was created. I just wish I knew where a more recent version could be found :)

You might want to rethink this and look at FW Missions for your militia.

Pirate missions will need to be run in a T3/Pirate Faction battleship/Marauda etc. They are quite high level.

To be honest with you the faction standing loss will be the least of your worries (yes they will take a hit though). Pirate missions are only in NPC null sec space.
Unless you are part of a larger alliance that can provide intel and defense against passers by you WILL get scanned down and killed extremely quickly. Considering you will probably spending around 500m to a 1bn for a half descent ship it may not be worth it.

Angel missions would be suicide. Curse (the region they live) is a complete warzone right now, with most of the big nullsec entities deployed to the area to duke it out.

Suggest you reconsider :)

If you want fun and risky gameplay and while making isk I would suggest joining a faction warfare corp, you can use cheap t1 frigs and go to plexes to capture and get some lp:

1. this will provide you with fights and/or risky gameplay
2. even if it doesn't it will make you good isk. lp > isk
3. if you get bored while sitting capturing plexes and no one comes to fight you can chat with corpmates in fw
4. you can join your corp on roams for extra fun and you get lp for destroying enemy ships.

When mining you have to make sure you pay your New Order permit or you can expect lots of bumps.

... wait, we're not doing non-sequiturs today?

kind of important to note, in NPC space, you don't get shot by NPCs for having low faction standing. In empire space you do.

If you try to raise your standings with an NPC pirate corp through missions, then you decided to undock and rat or run a complex, you'll end up shooting those same NPCs, ruining any gain you've accrued with those NPCs.

Consider running missions for a nullsec NPC corp that isn't an actual pirate faction. ORE, SOE, Thukker, Mordus Angels, and Syndicate come to mind.
