Question about high sec killing....

New to the game and I look on battleclinic at various loadouts and killboards and came across this killboard where a player is getting a lot of kills in a high sec system. I looked it up in game and the corp seems to have no wars or anything so how is this possible?

There are several ways to engage in highsec without CONCORD response: duels, shooting outlaws, shooting suspects, shooting people in your corp, faction warfare, ...

Alternatively, CONCORD doesn't mean instant death. It is quite possible to kill someone before CONCORD shows up and destroys your ship.

Edit: from his target selection I would guess he is baiting other people to engage him first by stealing their cans/mission loot.

The above.

Also keep in mind, as said, CONCORD punishes, they dont protect.
People can kill you before CONCORD even arrives at the scene.

I am researching FW as I am probably going to do this but I am training up more skills but this person is not apart of FW it seems. Duels maybe.....but some of those kills look a little lopsided to have been duels. Also I thought Concord ALWAYS found you if you killed someone. even if you warped to a spot safe in space?

Concord does always find you, but they take a little bit of time to respond to aggression. Meaning a pilot can blow up a ship, before concord arrives and blows him up for his aggression.

it's actually an exploit to avoid concord blowing you up.

In a few moments you will have an experience that will seem completely real. It will be the result of your subconscious fears transformed to your conscious awareness.

yes but then he would have losses as well correct? I dont see losses that add up.

Just curious about how it all is working as it just seems odd to me the the kills dont equal the losses

KB are generally the result of folk posting their own loses/kills - in the cases of concord loses - unless someone whores on the kills then it would only be the suicider on the loss mail. Accordingly, if he doesnt post the loss mail you wont see it.

I don't play, I just fourm warrior.

Oh I though all that kill/loss was automatically done. Maybe thats it. At any rate I have time to kill so maybe I will fly over there and have a look at whats going on.

Just curious how the game mechanics work.

He could be suspect-baiting. Stealing an item from a wreck/can so that he goes suspect and hoping others will shoot him.

If they do, it starts a limited engagement between the two parties meaning for 15 min (??) he can shoot at them freely even if he or they have changed ships.

It's not automatic.

However, I don't think that he's losing ships to CONCORD at all. He wouldn't have time to kill people with his Merlin in a 0.8 system. As Abdiel said, he seems to be baiting people somehow. Maybe by stealing their loot, maybe by dropping a yellow container in their mission area, maybe just by being yellow and obnoxious himself.

Killboards only post kills and losses that involve players.

CONCORD is NPC and thus dont show up unless there is at least 1 player on the kill.

Some people just sit outside the dock at Jita and wait for flashy red icons to land on field - then kill them with insta-lock Tornados.

That can happen for a variety of reason. Maybe someone didn't understand game mechanics and got scammed into attacking first and getting flagged. Maybe a noob pirate with red sec status decided to run the gantlet in.

Or maybe some doofus just learned his corp wardecced another corp and got all excited about pwning noobs, added the enemy corp to contacts in red, fitted out a sweet Merlin with tackle, scanned local in Jita, was thrilled to see a wardec target sitting in local, undocked his Merlin and hovered it about 30km off the Jita undock and waited for him to come out, saw him emerge in a frigate, burned toward him, tried to warp scram him and couldn't, realized his safety button was still on and switched it to red, warp scrambled the frigate, webbed it, and activated railguns.... and BOOM - Concorded! Then realized he was sitting in a flashy red pod in front of over 30 undocked random ships, tried to dock up, and BOOM - podded! Then went to whine to his corpmates about "what just happened?" And was then informed that we were all still in the waiting period before the wardec officially started, and was laughed at by all his friends.

...

That happened to a FRIEND of mine. A FRIEND! I swear it wasn't me who did it.

I promise...

Oh, one other way it happens is you invite someone to duel you, then you blow them up and pod them. Some people just sit outside Jita for hours scamming for duels.

Some people will even tell you they're contracting goods to you in private conversations, get you thinking the offer is going to be coming, and then issue you a duel invite, since you're expecting a contract authorization, you just click "yes" without reading it, and then they blow you up and leave you wondering what just happened.

In a Merlin?

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

Wouldn't the Merlin just indicate that he duels a lot?

Velator, Federation Navy Comet, Coercer, Thrasher, Caracal, Thrasher, Slasher, Omen, Brutix, Dramiel, Algos, Cormorant . . . . .

Suicide ganks? I think not.

There's nothing that looks remotely like a suicide gank until near the bottom of Page 3 (Bestower in Dodixie).

This particular chappy suspect baits on the gates out of rookie systems and has tried his hand at FW.. in the systems just outside rookie systems, and in trade hubs. The reason for all the kills and so few losses is he brings the full hardware - neutral boosts, RR, the works, and bails if anything turns up that he thinks might pose a threat.

Thats just how some people do it.

If you call that a duel...

Most of his recent kills are against horribly fit noob-destroyers (as in : no low slots, civilian modules in the mids, assorted T1 guns in highs ... clearly someone who just finished the tutorials). He is clearly baiting people one way or another. I don't know him, so I don't know how he's baiting them - it could be duel baiting, but it could also be something else.

Oh, and if you look at his losses, you see that he has remote-repair support - it often takes more than 30k damage to kill his Merlin.
