Linking Chat Channels

Being a frequent participant in the Rookie Help channel, I see a lot of non-English speaking players looking for help. I think it would be a great addition to EVE's UI if players could enter links to chat channels in the chat field, similar to how we can currently link items, names, corps, and almost everything else.

Yeah, this seems like a simple suggestion and probbly one often overlooked.

If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that?

there is a way to do this already. ive seen it done i just cant figure out how these people did it.

Seconded. That's a long overdue functionality.

You can link your own channels by exploiting the Corp Ad manager, but this doesn't work with all the channels that you haven't created/don't moderate.

With some HTML\Java code but can't be done IG. You have to write the code in something like Notepad++ and then paste it IG.

I'll dig mine out when I get home and post the syntax in here.

For MotD in Corp\Fleet please follow this link or stop at the relevant point further down this post EVE Online - Chat Channel Linking for MotD\Other Channels or available below:

This can't be edited and posted IG so you have to write the code in something like Notepad++ and then paste it IG.

You need four parts to enable this to work:

  • Have Access to the Chat Channel
  • Have access to edit the MotD
  • Get the Channel ID
  • Apply the Channel ID to the code

To get the joinChannel: ID you need to join the chat channel IG and then browse to somewhere like this:

"C:\Users\Maximus Aerelius\Documents\EVE\logs\Chatlogs"

In there will be a file named something like Help_20131008_181451.txt for the channel you joined in the above step.

Open the file and in the top of that file is:

Channel ID: -123456756

Take the whole of that number and the '-' if it has it and enter it into Notepad++.

Now build that information into this code (cannot link it direct to this post): http://i.imgur.com/G1pyAgt.jpg

The part after joinChannel: (in the top example in my screenshot it's 2) is where you enter the code from the above Chat Log.

The Help, E-Uni or Bogus Channel is where you name the Link for your MotD Link.

Arrow Next to be able To Post Links IG to other Chat Channels

You need to format your links Out-Of-Game (OOG) so follow the instructions set out above.
Next, to keep them all handy for use open Notepad IG and copy and paste the links into a New Note. They will appear as Hyperlinked text. Drag and drop into any channel you require to help those Rookies out.

If you can add to this thread with more functions please feel free to as this is quite obscure to those of us who try and look like blind men in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn't there ShockedBig smile

well i figured out how it is done however none of you are anywhere near close to figuring it out and since i now have a major advantage over everyone else in recruitment because of it i shant share. sorry guys. just know it exists.

Since I'm not an ass, here's how to do it:

To get your channel ID, you need to pull that from wherever your computer saves the chat logs, it will be in the top of the text file.

With my post in between and you claim to have the advantage...interesting. As for "not anywhere close" I think you'll find mine works and was tested multiple times with others last night.

Anyone can have instant linkable chat channels if they follow the details I posted up and you should feel bad for not sharing if you have an easier way.

Yes you can save them all in one Note in the IG Notepad called Chat Links of whatever and never have to struggle again.

as you may have found a single way which might work, my way is 100 times easier. so much so that i dont need a channel id.
