I would like to politely disagree with Azami Nevinyrall and agree with A Research Alt. Spawning items for arbitrarily chosen player groups is wrong, whether done in secrecy or not. If CCP wants to reward people, there should be clear and public rules about who qualifies for a reward. Otherwise it's only going to lead to more accusations of favoritism with every new organization hand-picked by CCP.

(I would however still prefer keeping the "rewards" to spotlights, fanfest invitations and such, and out of the game. The less stuff magically appears, the better for the sandbox.)

Much like the ToS debacle, unless there is something substantially erroneous in statements already made by CCP this is not an issue which requires further clarification, it's a problem which requires action and change. If CCP isn't going to do something to actually fix this problem, please just let the matter drop instead of further insulting your player base trying to justify it.

What she said.

Just stop giving people transferable in-game rewards. Full stop. Just don't do it. What possible reason justifies purposefully choosing a more problematic option when so many unproblematic ones exist?

Don't clarify, just stop using a policy that cannot be implemented unproblematically and which has unproblematic alternatives that can achieve the same or better results. Heck, don't even bother going though a big review and apology, just stop doing it tomorrow morning when you get to work. One quick post, and problem solved.

Thank you CCP Manifest.

While I understand there can be times when people are not available to tackle an issue I can't help but feel a simple post saying 'This is being looked into, expect dev blog on ETA' instead of just locking threads might be a better course of action. Make it seem like you care rather than just an act of damage limitation

Thank you, CCP Manifest. Hopefully, with whatever you guys come up with, will muffle the continuous whine that has transpired over the past week so we can all start getting back to the ole regular gripes and complaints that we are accustomed to. You know, like AFK cloakies, Null Sec broke, CCP never listens, Goons being mean, blobs not fair, nerf the buff, buff the nerf, expansions never enough, bumping should flag, NPC corps not fair, ISBoxer is cheating, blah, blah, etc, etc. Lol

On a personal note, I wish I had carved more time out of my vacation to lend to communication on this, and I apologize for that. I spent several hours researching and answering media requests (TheMittani.com, Gameskinny and as the "CCP spokesperson" for Kotaku) and getting as caught up as I could remotely, but I should have at least blueposted that we were listening here and elsewhere and discussing things internally.

My job duties suggest that I'm the guy that responds to media when requested, but I should have made that a second stop in this case. We have since dissected things more and hope the newer update will put many a capsuleer heart that bleeds for the sanctity of New Eden at ease.

No, never take time out of your vacation to answer people throwing shitfits on the forums. Yes, it will suck, but your family should come first, and your sanity a very close second. We might be mad, but if you're on a vacation, then you're on a vacation and we'll suck it up and move on.

Just seeing if I can still reply. Doesn't hurt to get a notification whenever someone responds to this thread either, I suppose.

Gimme a unique T2 Khanid battleship called the Castigator and I'd be willing to forget all this happened.

This. Done in secret, I consider this to be GM-player collusion which poses the question - "which other player groups get secret GM handouts?". Were it done openly, I would still be opposed to BLINK getting given things, but I would let it slide.

Also, there is a pretty widespread belief that this was a favor from a CCP employee that is personal friends with SOMER's directors. This could be wrong and CCP as a company may have honestly believed that SOMER deserved recognition for GTC referrals or some other reason, but given the history of GMs colluding to give at least one alliance tech 2 BPOs, I am not convinced. This seriously undermines the integrity of the sandbox - if CCP intervenes into the market for rare ships secretly, do they also intervene secretly into Alliance Tournament matches? Nullsec sovereignty fleet fights? Highsec freighter ganks?

What I want to see is:

- A list of all CCP gifts that have been given to players secretly in the past
- A reason for each (such as 'GTC referral', 'thanks for helping Fanfest logistics', etc)
- All future CCP handouts (possibly excluding trivial value items) to be publicised 7 days before the handout is made.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

There are security reasons why that's a bad idea that I can't really argue with.

You'd be a fool to give up vacation time and "real" time with your loved ones to deal with game related issues. I hope you had a wonderful time and created memories that your family will remember for many years.

[and now back to the meta game]

No good will come of this. All you've done is expand the meta game and stoke resentment.

Can we stop arguing over Ships that people never undock in and use... and Actually move towards discussing future Expansions of the game... I can see if these were OP ships people were Popping others with left and right.. but this is like a collectors car that no one even uses..... Yes.. It devalues them.. But.. If you aint using it.. It's just wasted pixels.. Lets move the game and this Incident Forward.. and Argue over something useful Like the Oft pushed out Capital Re-balance etc...

Hi CCP Manifest, hope you had a good vacation.

This is my simple suggestion to solve the whole SOMERgate issue, and allow you to reward people you feel deserve kudos.

You have the ability to introduce collectable type items..like, the Unit of Lag, the NEO cards. Make something similar when you want to reward a group. It means something sentimentally to those it's awarded to, and is worthless to the vast majority of EVE players.

Honestly, I'd rather have a personalized in-game "thank you" card from CCP that's worth 0 ISK, than "here's a reskinned ship we hand out to anyone we want".

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

As one with over 2 months of accrued vacation time, because the moment I take off it's as if everybody senses it and decides to get in trouble, I must say, don't feel bad about taking time off. Most of the stuff going on in here was total nerdraging drama queenery and over a weekend where everybody should have just relaxed and acted like adults about this and waited until the much-needed time off was taken.

Hopefully when I have my stroke someday I'll still have one good arm to play Eve with (while everybody else works their asses off for a change)

Hi there.
I'd really appreciate if you could take the time to read this post containing recommendations for the future.

While some might argue that the nature of the prizes and the recipient of the prizes were the main cause for our outcry, they really weren't. We were really most displeased with the lack of criteria for such rewards and the complete lack of transparency.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

Very much looking forward to CCP's response to this, once they've had the time to give it due consideration. Thanks for posting this, Manifest!

Welcome back. I am glad that you are signaling a willingness to address player concerns over the main issue, and all subsets of the issue. I hope that the rest of CCP shares your willingness. I do hope there will be a productive discussion on this matter, and an ultimate outcome that I believe most people here want to see; an end to in-game rewards for non-publically enrollable non-documented competitions and an end to the community service ship-grant program.

There are other ways to honor communities that do not involve isk. Monuments, for example. CCP has shown a lot of creativity in the creation and gradual improvement of EVE, I trust you can do a lot better than spawning rare ships for people.
