I prefer the toyboatas to what is basically WV's on posh clothes.

Lost another great chance to stay quiet. Audi is owned by Volkswagen Group since the 60's and some of its cars do share components with VW ones like the A8 and the Phaeton (W12 engine and the aluminium reinforced body). But like Kassasis wrote the Phaeton itself is a descendant from the older Audi V8. Referring to Audi cars like a "VW on posh clothes" is ridiculous at best, considering Audi's unique features like the "quattro" 4 wheel drive system that won rally championships in the 80's when 4 wheel drive was first allowed in the World Rally Championship and is present in the S versions of the A3/A4/A6/A8 models.

Umm, yes toyota does make better products than Audi., Not sure if that's your point.

Toyota does hold the 2nd place in the yearly worldwide car sales count, preceded by GM in the 1st place and followed by the VW Group in the 3rd. But that doesn't mean it makes better products than Audi. What it probably means is that its vehicles are generally a more acessible low cost option with better quality/cost ratio. Trust me, when it comes to quality and security, you wanna have your ass inside an Audi instead of a Toyota if you are ever unlucky enough to be involded in a car crash. Toyota does make good sports cars like the MR2 or the Supra, among others. But nothing that an Audi TT RS, an R8 or any other Audi Motorsport car cant compete with or even eat for breakfast.

Some good points here as to why it should be a standalone. Especially when you consider large fleet engagements the last thing you'd want is some random flying off in the complete opposite direction or chasing down the wrong target. furthermore EVE's engine doesn't currently support collisions (at least not the scale required fora flight sim i.e. one does not simply bounce off of a carrier (in a flight sim)) Furthermore I can't imagine shooting a POCO or POS would be anymore enjoyable than it already is, although it would be an immersive experience to say the least.

Of course it has to be a standalone. We all know about EVE's engine constraints and incompatibility with fast paced gameplay engines. What I see worth pointing out in this discussion is the fact that had CCP's project management not assigned resources to help develop a floppy Unreal 3 engine FPS game, EVE's engine could have been worked on and probably provide a better solution for a EVR integration right now.

Just not realistically feasible, the consequence of that would be to put literally everything else on hold.

you are not incorrect, but my personal experience (let me stress this: personal opinion so as such, YMMV), places Audis (nearly all of them except the quattro versions I have to agree on that) just a tiny notch above VW's and a few more above their poorer counterparts Seat and Skoda. hell in my country, you're better off buying a skoda superb than an A4 or a passat because what you lose in "car", you more than gain in "value", basically making it a better option, price-wise, than any of the other options above. Seat is special, they are weird like that.

but, of course this is mostly YMMV. specially considering that around here you mostly find A4's, Golfs, Polos, Passats and their skoda/seat counterparts fitted up with the 2.0TDI or the 1.6TDI, of which I personally don't like that muchUgh

so yeah, one can argue that my aversion for any VAG-made car is mostly social stigma (they are worse seen than BMW drivers here, since they simply don't shut the **** up about their cars).

audi did come with a nice engine that I want to get my hands on (the 4-banger 20valve 1.8 turbo), but that's it.

Only A3's and A4's come in a non-quattro option .... FYI

A6, at the very least the 2.0 TDI comes non-quattro too. same goes for the A5

A8, the V6 TDI also has FF option too.

Yeah I agree with you on that the Audi versions of equivalent VW models are practically same quality except for the minor differences and the 4 wheel drive, but from that to saying you'd prefer a Toyota over them... that's where I disagree. Where does Toyota line up match the quality in these cars? I'd rather drive a A3/A4 or Golf/Passat... even a Seat Ibiza/Leon over a Toyota Corolla/Avensis any day.

oil consumption mostly. toyotas are bland too, but I can at the very least pull 200.000km+ out of a DID engine while requiring pretty much basic maintenance. VAG diesel engines tend up eating a bit too much oil once you go over the 100.000km mark, sometimes sooner. granted however, this is a bit random-ish.

admittedly, and as far as affordable FF car goes am also a bit partial to JDM cars due to the fact that you can get a good number of options and solidly (granted cheap-ish) built that go on and on an on that simply require the regular oil change. this is for day-to-day town car however. for long travel comfort, nothing, but really nothing beats a good Volvo.

this is, of course, personal opinion.

I'd pledge to Star Citizen if Chris Roberts puts a model of a Toyota Prius into the game, with them space wings and space wheels. I want to roll down the window and look out the window in my spacesuit and look smug.

Proper models for car steering would be nice too.

I wouldn't say that to be so random, but more related to whether the engine is turbocharged or not, the driver keeps pushing it to the red line every day all day or not and whether the owner does the regular water and oil maintenance in time. I know people who owned TDI Golfs who at some point had to start feeding it more oil than normal but they also kept pushing the engine to the limits all the time. It's only normal that it will wear out faster like this. But also have known people with 30 year old diesel Golfs with about 500.000 km and running fine with regular maintenance only, so I'd say the way the engine is treated/mantained plays the better part on how long it will last without problems.

considering most VAG cars around here go thru 2, 3 even sometimes 4 owners before they finally get retired, that seems to be the most probable situation yes.

From Joystiq:

It was always assumed that Valkyrie would be a standalone competitive multiplayer game that just happens to borrow some art assets from EVE Online, but that might not be the case. In a recent talk at the EVE Vegas convention, Chief Marketing Officer David Reid hinted that CCP is looking at ways to actually merge the game with the EVE Online universe and confirmed it in an interview on RPS. He compared EVE Online players in spaceships to an empire's navy and DUST 514 players to its ground troops, leaving EVE Valkyrie to potentially fill the role of the air force.

My only hope is that they don't repeat the DUST514 rollout. They can plan integration all day and all night, but I'd like them to make sure the game is solid on the merits before they start rolling the integration in.

Not to mention that CCP forgot that nobody gets credit for back-end work, so however technologically revolutionary the orbital bombardment feature is--and it certainly is--most people will judge it by its in-game effect, which does not even come close to justifying all the "revolutionary" hype.

I (genuinely and sincerely) wish them luck. CCP may fall short, but only because they are always trying to shoot the moon.
