I'm training my newbie caldari character up and was wondering what are the Caldari tech-2 ships that stand out from the competition, whether in terms of conventional fits or something interesting that is possible to do with them.

Just to list a few fantastic Caldari ships, both t1 and t2: Harpy, Condor, Hookbill, Hawk, Crow, Moa, Caracal, Cerberus, Rokh, Cormorant, Basilisk, 10goo, Falcowned, Manticore, and the list goes on. Caldari are in a really strong spot atm.

I wear my goggles at night.

The only thing that stands out from the competition, when it comes to caldari ships, is the tank. Many caldari ships can hold some of the strongest tanks while leaving the low slots open for damage mods. The downside is that those damage mods are needed to bring the DPS in line with other race of ships.

I'm a big fan of the Flycatcher for a light missile platform and (while not T2) the Navy Caracal for a rapid light platform. Cerb still just isn't there for me yet, although the buffed version is better than it was before. Nighthawk is also a fun little boat.

Drake? All but dead.

Rokh? Fleet pvp blobwarfare ship, or large gang-blaster boat. . but if you are gonna do the latter. Megathron, megathron megathron.

Condor? Frog King Amazing.

Merlin? New Rifter.

Moa? Besides being the fugliest ship in the game (in my opinion) Its a meh brawler. Does Decent dps, and an almost battlecruiser sized tank, but its lack of mobility hamstrings it for the role.

Tengu? Blengu's are still amazing; but stupid, Rail tengu actually doesn't suck for once in its life. . . which is a far cry from being good, pvp fit they are still quite good, but only in fleet doctrine gangs. Most wormhole corps preffer the other t3's for their wetwork for actual pvp versatility.

Flycatcher? Please; Saber.

Navy Caracal : Actually not bad, but still outperformed by all other like it

Harpy? use a condor.

Hookbill? Use a condor.

Crow? Really? Until winter patch hits, the condor is better. After winter patch? We'll see.

Cormorant? Thrasher. Srsly.

Corax? Talwar, better fitting for its role, better role bonus, better damage profile for general pvp.

Raven? Typhoon!

Navy Raven? Typhoon!

Navy Scorp? Unless you just want the biggest most monstrous cap stable tank ever. . . Typhoon!

Ferox? Used as a throwaway fleet ship now, and actually pretty decent for it.

Basilisk? For incursions, is king. For Wormhole repping, is pretty awesome, for fleets? The minmitar one

Ultimately, my point is, yes, there are several decent Caldari ships out there. . . but ultimately they all get outperformed by something extremely regularly. Except for the Condor. Condor is amazing. . .and takes like 6 days to train to scary level.

As for being the missile race? No, I don't think thats Caldari's role anymore. They are the Shield Brick race. They couldn't possibly be the missile race when every other race has a missile platform that routinely outperforms the caldari ones in any stated role. (Amarr even have a missile battleship that I would rather fly than a raven.)

A bulet may have your name on it, but shrapnel is addressed 'to whom it may concern'.

A nuke is addressed to 'Current Resident'

SO glad I cross trained Caldari on this toon, although I use the skills more than the ships. But then pirate ships are so much better and I have Caldari specs for a bunch of them.

The only Caldari ship I fly on the regular is the Tengu ATM. People say "its terrible" for missions. I just picked mine up because variety is the spice of life and I could care less about min/maxing. But then a friend of mine enlightened me onto a little truth about it that really stuck out. He said " It might be mediocre, but its mediocre at every mission so it averages out to be just as good as the big boys in the end."

Anyway, thats a t3 not tech 2, I fly the Basi and the Onyx. They both do what they are supposed to do quite well, and the Onyx is a great WH closer when people have been ******* about with a WH and you don't know the exact mass on it.

A lot of people think the Golem sucks, I think after the expansion it will be a top notch mission and WH anomaly runner. Right now it is meh.
