It doesn't matter how many times this has been said since before the 1st CSM (and uit's been said over and over and over), some people will always equate "vote" with "power to do stuff" even though anyone should be able to see without having to be told that the CSM is at best an advisory body.

And that's fine. CCP still needs to tell the CSM stuff like this. That way the CSM can tell CCP that the playerbase is going to be angry. Then if CCP does it anyway the CSM can be like "told you so". It can be a bargaining chip in future discussions. "This is what happened the last time you didn't listen to us."

sorry what's that? CCP can't hear you over the sound of all the IW scorpions they're giving to their new "community partners" (but don't tell any one)

If you can hear it, they clearly weren't doing a good job of hiding it...

if they did a better job of hiding it then we'd all be talking about freighter ganking and warp speed changes instead. ah, a simpler time...

I see. Thanks for reinforcing what I wrote. I thought i didn't express myself quite clearly.

I prefer to use the one located in Account Management under the "Cancel Subscription" section. It seems to gather their attention better.

In other words you have no idea what's going on, or what the CSM actually is supposed to do, but you're very upset about it. Smile

No one is going to argue with you about doing what you think appropriate, but you should at least base those decisions on the facts instead of on your misunderstanding of the CSM's responsibilities.

Keep repeating it to yourself even when you are feeling fine. This way you won't relapse into feeling bad about it.

What a depressing thread.

Malcanis came in, explained his position and got pretty nastily attacked because it wasn't exactly a popular one. He responded with his characteristic snark but then wisely retreated. While I may not agree with all that he said, at least he attempted and succeeded in explaining his reasoning without launching an attack on the playerbase.

But Ripard Teg ... c'mon man. Your argument boils down to this: "U R ALL JUS JELLUS CUZ U NO GET SHINY". It makes you look like an insulting tool.

Malcanis may have made some people think about the issues at hand. Ripard Teg poured out barrels of gasoline and threw down matches.

It does mean "specific group of players". PvP pilots. It doesn't do anything for market characters, miners, industrialists, etc. CCP does this to promote PvP, and they reward the people who do PvP in that context accordingly.

Fun fact: anyone can get into a pvp ship. Even industrialists and marketeers and miners.

They are not excluded except by choice.

As I understand I cannot as I am not a part of a player alliance, additionally there are a limited number of slots, and furthermore a limited number of matches and players per match. The vast majority of the game is excluded from competing.
Well, I have to concede one small point: Since this year the rules about being in the alliance have not been stated in advance it was indeed not quite available to everyone. Though it was clear in advance that you would have to join an alliance at some point to compete. And of course generally not being in an alliance is your choice, it's not CCP excluding you personally.

And yeah, the competition for the AT obviously begins with getting one of the slots, which incidentally is a process known in advance where everyone has the same chance. CCP doesn't choose who gets those slots or who gets a place in the teams, so CCP doesn't exclude anyone (minus the alliance-less, and that only because the alliance participation rule wasn't stated in advance for this one AT).

there is one (BIG) problem: only pvp-oriented players can play and win AT.

In Eve Online Universe there is lot more what you can do: mining, trading, exploring, scamming, manufacturing, corp managing, thiefing, spying, etc.... And all these players who have chosen other paths to play this game are excluded from AT.

It's like maps for Counter-Strike when people only use sniper rifles. You can be pro at knifes, you can be pro at automatic rifles, but if you are weak at sniper rifles you will have bad time there.

That's simply not true. A lot of the skills needed to fly those ships in professions requiring a ship are core skills that apply to any/all ship.

You do not have to have 5mil sp in projectiles to participate in AT. You do, however, need to be able to sit in a hull, which can be done by anyone who has invested sp into any hull.

Doesn't mean you will be a winning QB in the AT, but don't be so disingenuous. It's a team effort and even a tracking disruptor or a dampener can help.

Yeah like we have forgotten the T20 - T2 BPO scandal ...

That actually was a scandal. It was scandalous. This is merely people making hay out of a legit, generous but somewhat clumsily executed gesture.

So T20 would have been fine if it was done under the guise of a reward for contributions to the community?

Again, talk to something else then? If I have a problem with my car I don't go and talk to a plumber. It's a group of people on the CSM not all of them understand every aspect of the world of EVE so try someone who you think does.

So you're saying that Malcanis is a plumber in a discussion about car repair?

Why is he the only CSM posting here then?
