I've got this migraine that I can't shake, even with ibuprofen, and I'm going to have to stop thinking for the evening... . I had a bit of a seafood dinner and i'm thinking it is the imitation crab that is causing the headache.

I've got a bit of lighting to do on the right, with blue, but... I am beginning to see it in completed form (it's about time, huh). Cool

seven had me working on a thing for the test server feedback section last night, and being mostly mouse work with my tablet setup on my desk has left my wrist sore

and tonight I have to work on a design project that I really went overboard on. the result will be nice, but it's ... a beast.

Chloe I will be back 24 h from now, free to myself again.

POSTERS. FREAKING HUGE POSTERS.

so earlier tonight, 10PM, I'm at Kinko's (a US 24-hour print services franchise)... when I happen to notice in the back of the building is a set of huge printers and oversize scanning equipment, as well as laminating machines. and then I notice the signs for banners 3 feet in width, up to 8 feet in length, using vinyl for outdoor, polypropylene for indoor... for around 8$ per square foot. (paper prints are much cheaper, at less than 1$ per square foot)

they prefer 300 ppi in CMYK, and while I'm not working in CMYK, the full-res ppi of zoe and chloe happens to be...

5 feet tall. <-download it to view in full res

the other great news is, their oversize print capability will save me a lot of time in the future. but as for POSTERS

just in case you so desire, this is an example of a (roughly) 3' by 5' jpg. the file is less than 2MB so you can take it to your local Kinko's or other oversize print shop for your own fanboy vertical life-size poster

I will continue to use this res... I'm very excited by the thought of it. with the retina screen array that will be "rainfleet mk3", I can screencap necessary resolutions directly from the client and work from it.

Graygor, I'll revisit Gray-Snake to upsize it, followed by the rains' beauty and beast unit group pic.

really cool pictures. too bad ccp doesn't seem to care very much (beyond paying a guy to draw) about implementing some of that planetary cityscape interaction into eve like is depicted in the images. i'd care a lot more about the story and lore of the game if I felt a connection to it. as it stands now... all I care about is the numbers in my wallet and blowing the other ship up before they blow me up. when people start talking in chat about heth and the empress and whatever...i'm like..."really? who gives a flying ****?" you don't meet them. no interaction and no personality whatsoever. they might as well just be names on a screen...oh, wait...that's exactly what they are. lol

eve is a great game. but it could be so much better.

it's current immersion level is basically absolute zero.

I considered that for a bit, too.

art takes time, and it's static. add that to the fact the ability is relatively uncommon and it costs money.

second, the value of the art is more technically significant than people realize. the way I imagine it, he's taken someone's verbal description and conveyed it visually, which allows the bigger group of programmers and designers to get the graphics effects just right (in terms of how things look at a distance, how the light should bounce off things, atmospheric effects [yes, even in space--which is a lie for our viewing pleasure])

there are barriers to volume + quality that you can probably imagine. they're mitigated to an extent by workflow improvements, assistant artists, and an effective method (techniques and such), and experience. but the bottom line is volume of good handmade art is low.

there's a reason why comic book art tends to lack that visual appeal, depending on how often the issues are published.

in contrast, a graphics engine such as Carbon (used by CCP for EVE character modeling) is so useful. when they get the lighting and colors (and everything) in a 3D graphics engine just right, it becomes a "live" moving thing of beauty.

I've noticed some artistic ability in different parts of the fanbase, outside of EVE-O forums, with various levels of participation in EVE with their skills... but I figure they have careers or a life that outweighs EVE, understandably.

It would take a special brand of EVE fanatic to first devote their life to art, and then to EVE. It makes sense in my mind, that this person is Borkur Eriksson, an Icelander.

the way I see it, for an Icelander to work for CCP borders on patriotic duty.

//he's fast and has been doing it for years. I just noticed this. "Illustration done for a EVE Cronicle. Was always quite happy with the fact that it took me only around 2-3 hours."

he's three years older than me, and at the time of that drawing he was 25. I'm nowhere near capable of that and I'm 30. I have nothing but admiration for someone with such focused, purposely developed skill.

I have no proper method--I skip around all over the place, to different stages of a drawing due to ADD, or I don't know exactly where I'm planning to go with it, and just lack of the things that mean the difference between a dabbler and a professional Roll I continue to do it because I'm shameless.

also. you're looking rather cute Eevee

I would be sad if they stopped doing all the storyline stuff (part time roleplayer here). But I do understand the actual lack of depth it currently has. CCP would practically have to run live events all the time for the storyline to even have a slight effect on all of us and or have the story effect factional warfare in some way.

The players of Eve are real the story of Eve. We have created far more interesting content the CCP has and it actually affects everyone. So part of me thinks that CCP should just drop all the NPC story crap and put that money to better use somewhere else.

i take no issue wiht he player made content. in fact that's the only thing that keeps it even remotely interesting to me. like i read about this rubicon thing coming up and how "the empires are losing power" i laughed to myself a little...that phrase suggests they had some to begin with. the names on the screen ruled us all this time.

hey my fingers are still blasted from overuse this week. the aching in my index fingers resisted the ibuprofen i took last night, and tonight the ibuprofen has barely managed to get it under control. just a mix of using a mouse in an unusual position, and a lot of cutting work with an xacto knife for my design project.

I want to give the image a stronger red, white, and black color scheme, and quite possibly finish by the end of the week.

but right know my knuckles are aching, my tendons hurt a bit too.

you know how it happens... you pick up an xbox controller after being away, and your fingers feel it for a couple days. it's like that

XOXO

Maybe you're just getting old.

I went go cart racing the other night, the kind where you can go fast enough to drift if you do it right. Shook the hell out of me but my fingers recovered within maybe 10-15 min and the rest of my arms a couple hours later.

Similarly I attempted a rock climbing wall that had some moderate difficulty to angle and handholds when I hadn't touched one in over 3 years. THAT one had my fingers sore for most of the night for sure.

But never had that sorta problem with a xbox controller unless I was often clicking and holding the thumb sticks while moving them around a lot. But then that was more of a thumb than finger problem.

As for a mouse I only get sore when I have to hold at such an angle that my wrist is bent all the time, and then my tendon on the back of my hand hurt, not the fingers themselves.

I could see how extensive work with an xacto could **** you up though. A lot of pressure on the same few fingers will definitely hurt after a while.

Now that I think about it if you're on the younger side and you been taxing your fingers a lot it might be worth it to look into preparing for or trying to prevent arthritis when you really do get older.

And yeah Eury I totally feel the same way. I loved reading the Chronicles for that very reason. It made the universe feel more alive when reading about how Aura the ship lady came into existence, or what Mind Clash is, or how Camera Drones work.

We need to have stations totally revamped to reflect the amount of undock traffic they should be having, taking into account there should be dozens of NPCs going in and out of those stations to supply them with food, water, oxygen, etc. Or what about the NPC buy and sell orders for basic commodities?

I want all of EVE's "Role Play" news to be on a fake website completely themed as having been made by the Scope or ACN. I LOVED the Quantum Rise trailer cause of that sorta thing they did with the video.

And ultimately, I'd want for a fully immersive player intro as well. We need to show them that EVE Origins trailer, and then have them waking up on an operating table or in the clone vat, however that should be done. They should be suited up in something basic so they aren't out in their underwear, and have them escorted/directed to their own captains quarters while they walk past race specific vendors and things out on the station walkways. Storefronts advertising Quafe, drones buzzing around, CONCORD officers patrolling, Amarrian monks praying or chanting, ads for pleasure hubs and holoreel theaters, some Minmatar guy literally duct taping together a drone or servant droid or something. We need NPCs gathered around a holoreel broadcasting a live Mind Clash game, or a news boradcast by the Scope or ACN.

And after all that they make it to their quarters where they get plugged into a pod for the first time and Aura starts her yammering.

And don't even get me started on how I'd completely redo the tutorials themselves. I like the new project CCP is starting with the training video seminar things, at least the sound of it, but execution remains to be seen...

We need streaming of things out of twitch in into our CQ and onto said billboards.
