Well played SOMER. Well played.

Get to be friends with a few GMs and Devs, then get handed 30 copies of a ship that used to be 20 billion ISK.

The owners of the older Scorpions have seen the ship fall from 20b to 15b - a loss of 5b per ship and a total 460b across the 92 hulls in existance. Expect the price to collapse further - the total losses may even hit the trillion mark.

Does this count as one of the ten biggest scams of all time?

It's a lower-capability ship, and really only valuable as a collector's item - But CCP has never said they'd limit the numbers available.

I have problems with CCP being so cozy with a gambling site, but not with them rewarding their friends like this. That's a separate issue from the gambling.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Do we have a current accurate count? It sounds like many others have been given away in secret as well. I have a hunch that to make it up to us, every account will get a Scorpion Ishukone Watch for Christmas. Since the value of this ship can seemingly only fall from here, why would anyone buy such a ship?

As we saw in the financial crisis, a market that has mostly sellers and few buyers results in dramatically lower prices overnight. Something might be "worth" 15b IF a buyer comes along, but if you had to sell it right now immediately what's it worth?

1b?

100m?

Less?

edit* This could end up being a loss of more than 1.5 trillion isk when they fall in value to 1b or less each, which is likely very certain at some point.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

I would just point out that I think the problem is that it was underhanded, as was mentioned before. Something like this, do it in the open. No one is going to say, "No, **** you, that's not right!" if it's out in the open. As I told my Marines: if you have to look over your shoulder or do something in a dark alleyway because you don't want to get caught, you're wrong. Period.

I mean, I know it's not on the same level, but didn't something like this happen a few years back? Isn't it why we have the CSM?

You mean someone would actually pay 20bil for that junk so it can gather dust in your hangar?

Reminds me of Chribba trying to sell some "collectible frigate", that has no flying value, never undocked for 55bil.

Yeah, don't you just love it how EVE GATE takes 47 minutes to load all your assets in the universe, because you're a spacejunk collector.

I'm aware of this. I actually meant to add that to my post, but that's what I get when I'm tired and shptoasting. :D

I would disapprove of this if it were in the open, but I would still have confidence in the integrity of the sandbox.

When it's hushed up, it really raises the question of what else has not been uncovered.

On the flip side, I would very much be in favor of CCP giving non-tradeable vanity items (golden pods, these Scorpions, whatever, as long as they are flagged 'not tradeable by any means' and are not able to provide a lasting advantage in PVP) to people they consider pillars of the community. That would be very different to secretly taking 5-10b ISK from everyone that owned one of these Scorpions and giving it to a GM's personal friends.

I would have the same attitude if the GM's friends were in-game entities I respect, like Psychotic Monk or the New Order.

This made me so sad, I couldn't stop crying.

Then my eyes dried up and I started screaming.

Eventually they had to put that clone down as the screams were too much to bear, and they were disturbing the other church-goers.

I'm all better now.

speculating on an item's value purely based on its rarity or anticipated rarity has risk. A gamble, if you will.
