We'd like you to keep all audio feedback in this thread - makes it easier to keep track of :)

We'll be putting a list of features here, but are mainly concerned with sound behavior as we've been doing a lot of behind the scenes changes to the audio engine.

It seems as though ALL sounds are stuck at 100%, regardless of where the sliders are...i'm hearing some VERY anoying and loud sounds that seem like they are intended to be small 'accent' types...not the *punch you in your face* types...

Its like an army of insects has invaded my speakers and they are very bad at using walkie talkies...

I'm just about to fire it up here too.
That sounds like a bug for sure, so I'll go check on it right away.

uhm. this is odd, because I cannot reproduce that.
if possible, could you try running the launcher again and see if it patches and see what happens then?

let me know,.

Not a change in Rubicon, but the starmap plays ambient sound even when music is turned off. Only way to get rid of it is to completely turn off all sounds. I definitely think this should be in the music category, and be turned off when music volume is set to zero.

Being near the sun causes a loud humming noise. Is this intentional?

Oh good. A proper thread to post this in.

Every time I go through a stargate, in addition to the usual sounds of gate activation, jump travel and arriving in the destination system, I now get this horribly bad and annoying static-like sound when activating the origin gate and again when coming through the destination gate. It's as if someone was trying to create kind of an electrical discharge noise but their efforts went horribly wrong.

Am I supposed to be hearing this? I really really really really do not want to activate another stargate with my sound turned on ever again if this is intentional.

It isn't loud on my ears, more like a soft-humming noise, the loud part of it could be a bug though, haven't heard it before Rubicon.

I'm getting a hissing/popping audio artifact on the gate animation not present on TQ. Sound setup identical on both clients.

I came to the forums just to report this, but found that it's already reported above. This sound is really horrible. Sad

Er, didn't read the thread. I am hearing the same thing.

I've reduced the master volume but it doesn't go away. Clearly it isn't a purely volume-related artifact, because I can hear it very quietly when sound levels are low.

At "normal" volumes it sounds really bad.

I'm getting this as well. I believe this is the effect that notifies nearby pilots that a ship has just jumped in. If this sound effect's current implementation is intended, I think it could be toned down a bit... or replaced with a less grating sound effect.

No, it's not intentional - the electric field and a burst there is only supposed to be played if you are near the gate and another player jumps or arrives at the stargate - this is noted. thanks

It is of course not intended, a good reminder is that if you can't control it through the volume sliders or it seems to be loud compared to the other sounds, then it's either a bugged audio event or the sound itself that isn't mixed in.

in this case a bugged audio event, I'll report this here immediately.

UPDATE: we found this, It will be fixed - it needs to be mixed first, which is out of my hands - but right after that, I can fix the bug itself.

So what you're saying is that when traveling through gates I should never hear this noise from my own gate activations, but someone else near the gate should hear it when I go through?

edit: actually, that's exactly what I'm saying.
sorry. ;)

The gate sound of 3rd parties disappeared because of some issues with (long story) Odyssey.
which were unforeseen.

A lot of players, including us and myself get a bit frustrated over that there was now no audio cue when camping, watching gates or similar. This was not a deliberately removed sound, so this sound should only be audible if you are watching other players jump or arrive, at a jump gate.

Yet this noise is a bit annoying and far too long.

But on paper that's of course a good idea Big smile

Yea, it's in there by mistake right now.
It wasn't supposed to be in before mixing and editing of course - so I agree, it's really annoying right now :D

This wasn't intended as music, this was set as a UI output sound.
but you are right, I have moved it to be on the music slider instead.

but know that I will have to test this, because some sounds are dampened by it, so if it doesn't do the trick without that specific ambiance, I will have to move it back, because I don't have time to fix the other issues involved in it before release.
