The reason for the fixation on titles, bits of paper, or pretty pieces of ribbon and tin always eludes me. Yes, for the baseline and the baseline-of-mind titles may have tangible meaning, but in the varied capsuleer organisations I have found myself in over the years, they have been little more than an expression of function.

When I still ran with Pyre Falcon, some may have taken some form of pride in the support Kaalakiota showed us, but those with eyes to see could quite clearly realize that it was a tin-pot legal battle - they saved us from a phantom, a legal case that would never touch us in our status as capsuleers. Sure it may have handed debate points to those too feeble minded to construct a coherent argument had we lost, but why are the feeble minded of concern to immortal soldiers? Essentially we got some pretty words and a piece of paper signed and sealed in some dusty CBD data archive.

The same goes for my new affiliation. We have words, words we cherish and hold dear, but words that are merely a crystallization of our servitude to a vision. They are for us and us alone - we take pride in the few fleeting moments that True Citizens have looked on our works and spoken kindly, but it is an acknowledgement, not a perpetual accolade. It is a reminder of how far we have to go - kind words are not forgiveness in and of themselves. Platitudes and recognition for what few paltry tasks we unworthy capsuleers have achieved for Nation will not expand our capabilities or take the cause further. Look at the reality - His soldiers and space assets still identify us as hostile despite our pledged allegiance. To attempt to wield our affiliation and acknowledgements as some all defeating hammer of argument, to use the titles Centii and Centus as if they have meaning to a capsuleer outside our own organisation, or have relevance to the True Nation, would be worse than folly. It would be a shouted admission of one's own ignorance of the nature of things. The continued belligerence of His military is a sign that encouragement from True Citizens is merely acknowledgement that we are on the path, we have yet to walk it's full length.

As others have pointed out quite effectively with humour, and as Gesakaarin has said in her opening posts, titles make great window dressing but poor talking points in a society of peers. Despite our differences and varying capabilities, that is what we are, like it or not.

Simply put, unless your title is directly equivalent to how much you can make or break when steering a multi-mega-tonne void ship with the meat of your mind, it doesn't mean a whole lot.

One has often wondered whether, in the whole universe, there is anything so unintelligent, so unapt to perceive how the world is really going, as an ordinary young commoner of our holder class.

Should you find the most unintelligent holder in the whole Empire, he or she will start shining with brilliance of genius, if you compare them with this gallentean kid Ixiris.

Proof? Independently verifiable, objective facts? Rational, well thought out arguments? On the IGS? Is that even allowed?

I remember this day-time junk holo show they used to have and it was like on a stage, where the host had guests up and some episodes would be all "My boyfriend had a porn career for a decade without telling me" or "my clone slept with my wife, now we don't know who is the father and DNA tests won't help so we're talking to an Intaki mystic about it" or "a cosmetic surgery accident left my wife with antlers and now she's joined a circus and won't come back" or something.

I don't really remember where I was going with this, which I guess is kind of the point. Good thread though!

I am afraid you have all been made the unwilling participants in an extraordinarily subtle campaign of public pressure that I can no longer, in good conscience, allow to continue.

I never knew that Captain Gesakariin felt so strongly about the shade under which I have endeavoured to keep my own light. I merely feared to be thought an impossible braggart and an extravagant confabulator if I ever spoke the truth. I am grateful to her for using such an indirect, even poetic means to convince me to come out of my shell, but seeing as it has caused only further confusion.

I confess that I am, in fact, the Secret Lizard Empress of Vylade you have read so much about. We are a proud, actually only half-lizard breed of extremely drunk and fashionable royals who secretly control the Gallente Federation in secret from behind the secret scenes of secrecy.

Technically I am a Double-Secret Crown Elite Platinum-Plus Lizard Princess (Second Edition), but as my Conclave was destroyed by the Sansha or the Sleepers or someone like that when I was a child I have been thrust into this position of supreme responsibility before I was truly ready.

Fortunately my role in these enlightened times is mostly symbolic, consisting of single-handedly emptying ceremonial vats of rum, smudging out rented space-station hotel rooms with dryweed, and manipulating planetary currencies to enable to wholesale seizure of legally-obtained civilian weaponry and their conversion into sex toys.

Having been exposed I am theoretically both entitled and obligated to declare all of you my horrible, awful, really appalling subjects, but I am willing to forgo these claims if someone sends me an excellent pair of boots that will not be ruined by pod fluid.
