First of all ... This proposal is a method to hold both styles, free to play and monthly subscription.

EvE should not be Free to play, because CCP needs to make a profit, obviously
But i consider that in today field of video games, most players rather dont want to make such commitment unless they are sure, and we all know that 14 or 21 days is just not enough to get the idea of what EvE is about.

I suggest a system similar to trial accounts but more restrict. All 4 factions designate a single system in their own region, authorized by Concord for potential pilot candidates.

Conditions :

  • All the Trial account restrictions apply.
  • These candidates are not allowed to leave the system, and will have to do so with the limited resources available in that system.
  • Due to their lack of understanding and training they cant get any skill pass lvl 3
  • They can requisition a one time only permission to get 14 day licence access.
  • They can, as any trial member, use a PLEX to activate their account.
  • If their licence expires (subscription time), their licence is temporarily removes, and all the restrictions are applied again

New gameplay aspects for players :

  • Since these "candidates" can not move between these 4 faction system, they can hire players to carry their clones from one system to an other, allowing them to pass between these 4 systems.
  • If a players licence expires, only way for them to continue playing would be in these 4 system, so they will need to arrange transport from players to one of these systems (smuggling)

Some results :

  • Active player number will increase
  • These systems may becomes trade hubs, due to population density
  • Will allow/motivate players who have left EvE-Online to come and check out the game

I hope this will not be considered as one of those EvE Free arguments. But a way for EvE to grow and survive to future of Online gaming.

Thank you for your time.

WoW now has a free to play system, something like max level 20.

Maybe CCP could do something similar. You only get 1 char slot, and a max SP of 2mil, and the restriction of not being allowed to dual box this. If you've ever tried to log on a trial account when you have your main logged in, you'll know what I mean.

I was going to write something intelligent and meaningful regarding the topic, but I reconsidered.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Active player number will increase

That certainly would not be the case, if you increase demand, then you increase prices

Out of interest what are you planning to have in these systems? They'd be mined out in 3 hours, and the fighting over any exploration site would be immense. The systems wouldn't become hubs because who would bother with 4000 people stuck in 1 system unable to make any ISK beyond level 1 missions.

Those reactivate for 5 days for free offers they send out do that job nicely.

OP, no ... just no.
Article is shallow with a clear lack of understanding what goes under the hood in EVE.

I don't even know why I even bother to write this.

get in the biomass queue.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Where did you take your economy class? You increase the demand and the supply probably won't be increased -> price goes up.

Nobody in their straight mind would lower the price on something that has an increasing demand with the supply staying the same.

And how would this improve EvE?

I predict this will only attract a hord of LOL players and the likes who are used to instant gratification and simplicity in a game. It will probably destroy EVE as we know it if CCP become dependent on this crowd.

a daft idea tbh...

just make buddy linked trials 30 days instead of 21 days.

that give new players 30 days to figure out if they like eve or not.

Everytime you buy something that says "made in china" you are helping the rising unemployment in your own country unless you are from china, Buy locally produced goods and help create more jobs.

Why keep them confined to one system? Kinda defeats the purpose of letting them try the game out.
