Yea I don't want the wiping of assets EVER, except on trial accounts. I am in full support of deleting old trial accounts WITH a notification sent to that owner 2 weeks in advance that forces them to either petition against it or resub to EVE to keep their name.

As for returning players, It seems my other post was slightly misleading towards my intentions. If you EVER were a subscriber to EVE, I do not believe your name should EVER be able to be forcefully changed.

While name changes, I am still on the fence with leaning more towards no. It doesn't seem fitting for EVE to be able to change your name and erase the things you've done in the past just like that.

Although, having a name you wanted taken by a 6 year old trial account that was never subbed and forcing you to pick a similar name could possibly be petition-able for a slight name change, however, employment history and everything else that comes with it and the character will have some kind of marking of a name change. That, however, sounds like a lot of effort and controversy for name changing in general, as someone could claim to have wanted a name when they actually didn't for a free name change...

This leads me to think that name changing shouldn't be allowed all together, and that old trial accounts should simply be deleted should they be inactive for more than a year WITHOUT ever having been subscribed.

+1 A good first step would be to delete all characters on never-subbed trial accounts. That would clear up probably half of the taken tames.

Horrible idea! Any allowing of name changing then frees the creater of a character to come up with all manner of ridiculas names without care due to the fact they know they can change them at will is just a contribution to eye soreness. I much rather prefer having the incentive to name the character with a decent name the first time.. or else be penalized when it comes time to sell said character.

This in conjunction with the added annonymous feeling some player may get to commit foulness and then cover their tracks after a fashion will not be a good addition to the game.. There must always be consequences for malevolent or benevolent actions in eve even if they are as small as immediate name recognition.
