Short range weapons and L3/L4 missions

As mission levels increase, distances of engagement also increase(i.e. rats spawn further away, attack from further away, try to keep you at a longer distance in case of "sniper" rats, etc.).
And as your ship size increases, its speed decreases.
And since some mission take plance in Deadspace, you can't rely on MWDs.

Therefore am I right in assuming that blaster/AC/Pulse(no scorch)boats are mostly useless because you'll spend most of the time burning lo and fro either not shooting at all, or firing in falloff applying only half of your max DPS?

MWDs work in deadspace these days.
AC Mach is great in L4s, I don't mind a Fleet Tempest fit similarly.
The poor tracking on Arties can make them a liability in some missions where you get dumped in the middle of scrammers and webbers.
Try it, use what works for you.

Yeah the MWD died a year or two ago

Feel free to jack up your sig radius zipping around like a lunatic, assuming your cap can stand it.

if your a missile player generally cruise missiles and a raven is good for dealing with the enemy. Most of the time they'll be within weapon and lock range.

Nuke it from orbit: Battleship + long range weapon system + Micro Jump Drive (MJD)

take a friend along
npc's can be forced to split their attacks, which can allow you to take advantage of them even more

and yes, you only get half the bounties and agent payments
but you also blat through them much faster
it can make missions more fun

you can even compete for room agro ...

Or pop all the triggers on 'World's Collide' and 'The Blockade' and warp out. Purely for fun on seeing how long the other person can last. Hahaha Twisted

But I kid (sort of), always fun to mission run with someone else.

Also, it kind of depends on where most of your skill set is at in regards to which weapons systems you use. For example its pointless in us telling you to use Large Hybrid Turrets on a Rokh if all your skills are in Armour and Lasers or Shields and Projectiles.

I myself (I don't mission run, but I do run DED sites) use missiles and for the sake of argument my Caracal in a DED4. Usually I'm sat 50k off everything (or can burn out to that range if the DED site drops me into the middle of them) and still hit things that are sat 56k off me. Its usually only the Guristas ECM boats that can jam me or the bigger Angel ships that can actually hit me.

For short range however (read: if I land smack bang on top of everything) my missiles can still hit, but I also have some drones.

Edit: (It's probably out of your reach at the minute (but you could always start training for one)) I have a friend that uses a T3 cruiser with blasters for his level 4 missions and he says it handles perfectly, for him anyway. Just a thought.

Edit 2: Also sometimes I find that if you have burn towards a certain group and finish them off, sometimes a new group will warp in directly on top of you (out of sheer luck most of the time as you happen to be in their warp in area), this can cause issues especially with larger hybrid turrets and (I believe, dont hold me to it) artillery because they end up under your guns, moving much faster than yourself and you simply cant hit them for sh*t haha but again, that what the drones are for Big smile

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Also depends on what kind of rats they are. Guristas like to hang out far away, Angels come right up close.

If MWD's work in deadspace, that could help, but it'll eat your capacitor in a hurry, and you'll take extra damage from the high sig radius.

Back when I ran missions, a torp golem worked great against Angels, for example.

If i was not on other projects which take all my attention and isk at the moment, i'd try a Blaster Deimos in lvl 4 missions, i bet it's fun.

You don't leave it on, it's only for closing within a useful range to the next group, often only one or two cycles.

But a MWD "eats cap" even while it's not running, because of the penalty to capacitor capacity, which lowers the cap regen.

It can be fun if you have enough cap even with the penalty, but I wouldn't suggest it to someone just starting lvl 4s.

A related question - don't warp scrambling rats disable MWDs?

As far as I know, rats do not disable MWDs (nor MJDs).

Rats only use warp disruptors, they dont have scramblers :)

When I need to repair sec status, sometimes I fit a blaster Talos with a MWD, load up on both Null and Void ammo, and 'rat' in missions. (Other than expensive tags, it's the fastest way now).

Short range weapon systems work fine, as long as you know your range and have both short and long range ammo on you.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

a lot of it depends on the mission and the ship. an AC mach is agile, fast, and has great dps with acs. with the proposed marauder changes a pulse paladin will be pretty crazy 30km conflag and 90km+ scorch. the kronos is fairly short ranged but blasters can get insane dps, and with null it will get around 20km optimal and 50km falloff.

on a mission like damsel in distress everything spawns within 30km or so. High dps short range weapons are pretty awesome here.

for say gone berserk a few of the initial spawns are kinda far away but after that most are pretty close, but it is pretty easy to swap to a long range setup. I usually just use a tachyon or 425mm rail setup, warp in, turn brain off, and just shoot stuff.
