i placed this post in here because it is kind of warfare related.
i have my overview setup by following the guide on uniwiki, however i would like to know if this is actually current and upto date or are there some custom overview settings available to download that are more upto date?
i need a good setting for pvp and fleet roams, and also a general point to point travelling overview. i have my basic gtfo . mission . mining tabs all setup.

many thanks

i do not know how to setup overview and i have played this game from 2006.

I have only one tab with some settings that may vary , it is all you need.

I would not recommend this.

I run :

"Small gang" window with gates, beacons, ships, and stations with it. It's my usual one that I have open.
"Enemy" window with only enemy ships.
"Drones" -drones
"Loot" - Wrecks + Bodies + drones
"Navigation" - Anything you can warp to. Belts, planets, gates, stations. No ships.

Another option to think about if you ever have play Logi. Friendlies tab - like the enemy tab but... uhh friendlies.

I use these orderings :

http://clip2net.com/page/m98105/53346921

http://clip2net.com/page/m98105/53346914

There are a few edge cases where this may be confusing, for example in faction war, allied faction awoxers will show as friendlies so some situation awareness is still needed, moving bad standings ABOVE allied faction would fix that but presents other problems. There may be further confusion since i dont use the standard colours for example, any pirate for me is flashy yellow, militia target flashy orange, war target flashy red amongst some other changes.

The odering themselves should be pretty solid even without a non standard colour scheme.

Cheers that helps alot, i guess then its just a case of creating your profiles etc.

why is it that in the eve uniwiki guide they say to put things in a different order? does it actually make a difference.

The order of things is dependant on what you want to know. All i want to know is, can i shoot them. And secondarily, can i shoot them near a gate or station. Beyond that im sure there are many wierd and wonderful setups but mine is for quick reference of hostility, and viability.

well i think i am almost done, thank god :)
i followed uni wiki guide for the colortag and background list order, not sure why but i just kept going back to their's i then took some ideas from Blitz Kotare and sarah's overview pack's and ended up with my own :)

question in a basic pvp profile would you have npc rats etc visible or would you make a seperate PVE mission profile?

also just noticed that each time i import an overview once i set up my backgrounds and colortags to a specific order i then export the said overview, if i then re-import the same overview the backgrounds and colortags are back to their original order, is there away to save the position of these rather than having to keep adjusting them to how i want?

hope that last part makes sense

As you already know background and colortag order is important to identify your targets.
It works like this:
The colortag and background settings lists work intependent from each other.
The system will always start at the top of the list and goes down line by line, looking for a set condition that matches the target. If it finds one, the target is marked according to your settings. All other lines below the first line with a positive match are ignored.
By using different orders in the colortag and in the background list you can work around some issues. Usually the lists are set to warn you of imminent dangers (i.e. war targets etc. are at the top).

For a "basic" PvP overview profile I would include (most) NPCs. If you fight other players where there are no NPCs around those settings won't do anything. But if there are aggressive NPCs you might want to know how many of them have you targeted. You should have other profiles available to set the overview with regard to what you want to do. You mentioned Sarah's overview pack above. I like that pack (my own is a bit different, though) and you'll find many different overview profiles in it. In my own overview settings I have profiles for general PvE, general PvP, PvP - ships only, wormholes and many more.

It seems that you exported your settings before saving it in game. Check the dropdown menu for the overview settings. You'll find an option to save your current overview setup.

And while we're at it, are you also interested to alter the ship labels in the game and make your overview colored? (You'll see the ship label if you click on the target ship ... it's a line of white text giving info about the distance, ship type and other stuff.)

You know about importing and exporting your overview settings, so I assume you also know that the info is stored in a XML file.
All overview XMLs are structured the same. I did some XML magic with my settings and also explained what I did using comments (I'm considering to release my overview settings to the public when I'm satisfied with my profiles).

Here's what you need for colored overview columns and custom ship labels (just cut&paste into your overview XML):

http://pastebin.com/cZQu5Fds

EDIT: It's explained in the XML, but it's important: You need to open the "Ship" folder under "Overview Settings" and uncheck "Hide corp ticker if pilot is in Alliance" after you imported the XML with my modifications or the ship label will not display properly.

EDIT2: Forgot to mention that the XML I posted also has the settings for the overview columns. If you want to keep yours you need to cut&paste the sections for ship labels and colored overview tabs seperately.

The 'allied' militia problem can be worked around by sticking the militia column on your over view.

Shrink it right down so only 1 letter is shown then it clearly shows if they are in your militia or your 'allies'

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

I would move things like "pilot is at war with your corporation" above "pilot has good/excellent" standing, just in case you happen to go to war with someone you set to high standing. You don't want to be in a situation where you don't realize they have a reason to shoot you. I also put "pilot is in your fleet" at the top of backgrounds but not colortag. Then you can see at a glance if the people you are fleeted with are corpies, or allies, etc from the colortag. It's really just personal preference though, whatever works for you. There is a picture of my setup (it's kinda hard to read though) in that link I posted, though it is optimized for RvB and may not be "one size fits all".

Many thanks for all the replies and tips etc, i personally think the overview guides need a complete overhaul, there are alot of good overview packs available but sadly they are no longer updated (sarahs for example) and for a noob pilot to get his head round the overview is a big hurdle. What would be nice would be for ccp to introduce more color into the target text, i know this can be done however it does cause some export issues, i am very surprised they have not released an official tool to create custom profiles.

anyway once again thanks
