Rubicon... emphasis on "con". The FREE expansion you pay for by subscription by whatever means.

Lets do a little comparison

World of Warcraft: Expansion you have to pay for + subscription you also have to pay for

EVE: Free Expansion + subscription you have to pay for.

Which would you rather have?

I should have said from a purely financial viewpoint.

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

The best iteration™ on explo would be an idea™ that you should't be seeing stuff your ship has no hardware to locate it with in the first place.

They basically, with each update, make all the PvE content more and more of a "grind" and less fun while making admittedly minor improvements to the PvP system.

What we will end up with is a very solid PvP system supported by various forms of PVE that are nothing but simply farming/grinding.

Not sure if that's a good or bad thing, I guess the PvP part is good?

The only PVE i have ever seen to be somewhat fun is incursions. WHy? Because you need to do alongside other people, that you can chat with while making money. THe activity itself is boring as ALL PVE in ALL games ever was and ever will be

You know. Odyssey ruined exploration for me so much that I went back to mission running.

Well I know that they will never admit that they screwed the pooch with the mini-game and spew, but wouldn't it be sweet if there was an opt out switch - simulates in the background the amount of time and result achieved based on skill level and some random chance function - and just put the stuff in your hold when the requisite time sink was completed....

Someone on another forum hinted that Rubicon could see the "discovery" of a new galaxy. If this is in CCP`s plans, I think explorers have nothing to worry about. Quite the contrary! Cool

Let's hope but it is CCP. I won't believe it until I see it.

I had such high hopes for exploration when they announced Odyssey!

as soon as concrete things started to leak out however, my hopes were replaced with despair.
When the expansion hit, all my fears came through.

Exploration as a mini profession is dead.
It is stupid, mindboggingly easy to find sites. It completely destroyed the market and the idea of selling hacking utilities is a stillborn idea with prices like this.

A huge red square, twice as big as any other "hidden exploration site" will appear in one solar system owned by the most bored null security players.

Patch notes beforehand will state that titans now have the ability to launch ships into an unknown area at any length of distance.

Patch notes beforehand will allow players to build star gates with the blue prints located in any newbie starter school. Once built, the owner(s) will be able to rename their gate and decide who to allow to use said gate.

This new galaxy will be fully stocked with all ice and mineral components. Any stations built around the many, many available moons will be similar to those in high security space in terms of allotted openings.

CCP will error since pirates will somehow already to idling in the belts.

I like the new system, not so much the hacking game, more the fact that tons of newbies come to low sec now to scan down sites in ships that are easy to gank. I've scored a few sisters launchers from them now.

I was getting bored of running around high sec doing 4/10s in tengu anyway :)

Thanks CCP!

Yes lets do a comparisson.

WoW, circa 13 million subscribers, Eve ??? CCP cannot absorb the loss due to their multi boxer strategy.

It would be suicide. (ehm Incarna)

Yes exploration isn't as good as it used to be, I have no problems with the mini-game but the l00t spewing is bad!
Im not too fond of every exploration site lit up for all and sundry either. Would be nice to have some secrets.

Bad, CCP, bad.

The old missile names was dumb, and the old windows 3.11 inventory was ****... and you can still use the login screen.

Maybe whine about less ******** stuff that actually matter?

The old missile names (and the others) gave flavour to the game.
The old inventory was intuitive, relatively bug free and *did the job*.

The new one is sluggish even after 1 year of refining and still buggy as hell. Every time I leave a station I may lose my opened inventory windows, or they "double up" (i.e. half overlapped inventory + ore magically appear just because).
It's still very ugly at using at POSes, I keep having to click the 4th corp hangar selector EVERY time I go back to a POS and this for EVERY single lab.
They take more real estate so they tend to clutter the screen more. For stuff nobody cares about, like an outdated contents price.

On one character, my most played (this) I just CANNOT keep the station item inventory opened. Clear the cache, reboot, anything. When I enter a station I SHALL get my station inventory window replaced with the ship cargo window. Actually doubled, as I (sometimes, it's all random with this inventory!) keep my ship cargo open at the center of the screen, but the station inventory window becomes a clone of it.

So, maybe the old inventory was **** but coded in 2001. This is *2012* and sucks AT LEAST as much.

About the log in screen, I currently have 8 accounts.

I used being able to log them all in seconds, now it's an excruciating torture.
And guess what? Every new patch it may or may not (once again, random!) fail the patch process and force me to redownload the whole client.

So, I am glad you set your standards below ocean floor level. I don't. I pay many AAA class MMO yearly subs and want a proper job done.

Meh - its always good when you get a sister launcher - but I cant see the fun in shooting t1 ships with 1 month old pilots behind the wheel. If ccp kept the npc in the sites that would have required combat ships to be used, then at least there would be the potential for some good pvp.

So what should we do? Ask the CSM to ask CCP what is happening. Presuming that it hasn't already been discussed and has been NDA'd into oblivion.

I used to really enjoy exploration. It took work and skill to find things of value.

Odyssey ruined it for me. It transformed something that was challenging into a case of.

1) System Scanner says: "There be bacon here"
2) Hacking minigame: "Run through the maze to find the bacon"
3) "Yay you solved the maze! Now let me throw bacon at you whilst you run about like a hungry, hungry hippo".

CCP, in their usual way, promised that they would iterate(tm) on the feature and they had great ideas(tm) for how it would be improved.

Now that Rubicon has been announced I've gotta ask. Is there going to be any improvements? Or will it be another feature that has been left behind.

TL;DR part II, SOE ships FTW.
