Why does the Incursus hull have a refueling boom ?

I am not a starship engineer, so I am wondering why the Incursus hull has a refueling boom? I didn't think starships used liquid fuels. Does it use kerosene? How do I refuel it? Logistics vessel? I never seem to run out of fuel anyway, why would I need a in-space refueling system?

Also, why does it have an elongated helicopter-style boom, instead of a normal aircraft-style boom?

It is not a boom. It is a lance for use when you need a weapon with longer range than the blasters you probably have fitted. If your a rail incursus it is good for use as a secondary weapon when you run out of ammo shooting at pesky condors. Ole!

time to be in character for 2 minutes and think: what fuels DO ships use? They have engines, that create exhaust. That means combustible fuel. We know what the reactors run off of. How do the crews live and eat? All things I want to know, want to see.

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

An "exhaust" doesn't mean a combustable fuel, the plume from an Ion engine is theoretically much the same as we see on all but Minmatar ships.
There was once a set of attributes for the engines, listed on ships (and I think on Stasis webs?) which stated the propulsion type (and its strength) in much the same way as the sensor systems are still categorised.
