EVE: Valkyrie - Not a MMOFP Flight Sim?! WTF?!

So this article:

EVE: Valkyrie - Interview ith Hilmar

The author, without a direct quote, tells us that Valkyrie is not going to be like DUST 514 in so far as it is not going to be connected to the Tranquility server??!!!

Is this true?! Or just 'yellow paper' journalism?

To not make Valkyrie a DUST 514 equivalent is insanely idiotic....

There is no serious reason why a low orbit/ non-warp fighter based game can not co-exist with EVE Online and DUST 514 - anyone remember the atmospheric flight demo?

While this is a bit of a rage post - if the unquoted statement is true - it's also a cry for "say it ain't so!"

If EVE VR, and subsequently EVE Valkyrie was moved forward by 'interest', why give up the best marketing tools that will only make this game better: Single shared server with EVE Online and DUST 514, and being the first MMOFP Space Fighter Sim (ever)????

CCP's success is rooted in EVE Online - it is difficult to imagine them making the mistake of loosing sight of that and not making Valkyrie a 'connected' game.

Get over it.

First, they use radically different engines, second the time scales are simply incompatible, and lastly (and most importantly) integration is hard. It's takes serious Iskies, and CCP is trying to be fast and agile here - delivering an excellent product in a short timeframe. CCP doesn't need Development Hell here, they need simple, clean, and fast.

IOW: To try to make Valkyrie into a Dust-type connected piece would be insanely idiotic.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Eve could influence the staging of the games i guess. There have been so many epic fights involving Carriers and Moms that the Lore, Eye Floss and Staging areas have pretty much already built themselves. Granted only Eve players, and then in some cases only some of those, would recognise this perhaps but nice little idea i reckon.

Cant wait to see what comes with it really, i already like the way its came about.

Think of EVE as Simcity and Valkyrie as SimCopter.

That's a good idea actually. If they could replicate some of the big player battles and use them as environments...imagine fighting Asakai as a small craft.

Blatant alt posting? In my EVE? It's more likely than you think.

All of those are 'choices'.... and as for 'fast and agile' who the @#$@ cares?? The days of stand alone games are obsolete, and if CCP isn't going to charge for it, but still expect any longevity out of it - they are not going to get that out of a 'mitosis' to EVE Online is a missed opportunity on several levels.

And a game I won't waste money on for a 'one trick pony'.

I think this is actually a good move by CCP to have a "EVE" centric game that is not tied to the EVE universe like DUST is, something would require both resources and time that I don't think CCP can just can set aside for Valkyrie just like that when DUST still needs a lot of work. Having said that, you never know what will happen in the future.

I guess it comes down to whether CCP wants to be the Audi or the Toyota of the gaming industry?

Both create reliable products but one is many degrees of quality higher than the other...

In my opinion, if you ask yourself 'what is it that has made EVE successful?', one of the answers is undoubtedly 'no-compromise'.

So I'm not trying to argue against realities, of this would be difficult or that would be hard, it's a customer perspective on an article that raised the question: Is this true?

If it is, it's very disappointing - and tells me there's absolutely no reason why we don't have WiS yet in EVE Online. And I would truly wonder if the vast majority (not the vocal minority) of players who are ecstatic about EVE Valkyrie wouldn't want to be patient just a bit longer to have something that was integrated and 'meaningful'...

CCP has a brand that they are under utilizing if they make Valkyrie a stand alone game...

Add to that the recent well praised EA ex-employee hire and you've figured out the rest of the puzzle (business model wise).

EAVE Valkyrie - It's in the Game™

Oh yeah and btw, I raise my bet even further in how they will sell this one out to Sony too for PS Vita exclusivity.

Well. at least for people who want to play it on mobile devices and were worried about the Oculus' power consumption, with the option to play without it that concern is out of the way.

Wonder if they'll add the option for a fighter 3rd person view. That'd be tight.

I want to see Valkyrie happen, have been somewhat jealous of not getting to play it at Fanfest, etc

however, it was never presented to players in a game environment containing non-valkyrie players, OP; that's a case of your imagination running away with you, and false expectations you started in your head. and are attempting to spread via mind viruses here. (rejected. **** you)

Granted, it would be cool to have integration but let's... take it one step at a time. Valk's good for 3D and EVE's relevance, DUST is at least -a form- of ambulation, and a proof of concept (of cross-game, cross-PLATFORM integration)... and I'm hoping for things like DUST/EVE coordinated exploration (like some of us have seen in that bootleg Russia-EVE-meet video).

...but you gotta keep your expectations in check. and distinguishing between expectations and reality helps.

in closing, sometimes the value is in the potential for bleedthrough, and things that are beyond those steps (of EVE+DUST+Valkyrie, that would require EVE+DUST+Valkyrie to happen, or that people wouldn't conceive of until they see EVE+DUST+Valkyrie and say "hey what about...") ...basically "one step at a time!"

and let's be grateful that we get to play a refined version of the fanfest minigame, on a higher resolution version of the 3D helmet. It was a stroke of creative genius by a handful of inspired devs "who smoked meth in a basement" (CCP Bettik, EVE Vegas 2012) to get the programming finished, just to see it happen...

Kassasis. the Audi vs Toyota analogy? analogy? really? that's like me not knowing how to make my point using relevant facts, and instead using a weak example because that's all my simple mind can manage, and then expecting you to take me seriously.

raven. I don't care where the $ comes from, why do you. companies look to find the best way to get their product paid for, it's not too difficult. cellular computing is a great idea, especially when they're already capable of pushing the resolution of the next-gen Oculus Rift. it's a huge market and you're trying to make it sound like a problem because you're shortsighted and you're one of the bad EVE player archetypes.

Star Citizen.... got nothing bad to say bout it - in fact I hope it turns out well, as it will force CCP to compete instead of acting like a psuedo-monopoly in the Spaceship/Sci-Fi gaming genre.

THEN... we might finally get waking in stations!
