We got -10 players ganking in x system atm.
they fly cheap destroyers. I was wondering would it make sence to have a counter ship stashed in a orca?
what ship would this be? and how fast could i blow up a destroyer?

Personally I would do the following

move system
tank instead of yield

By the time you swap ships to counter a gank, chances are the gank has already happened, maybe not to you, but to someone else, and since they're -10 they're not bothered about the consequences.

I'm not up to date with the whole criminal flagging system, so don't know if you fire first and they haven't aggressed what will happen, you could end up getting concordededed (assuming you've set your safety off green)

They probably specialise in ganking miners since they're an easy target, so try and avoid giving them the temptation.

If you are mining in a high sec system where you know there are gankers then forget about yield and fit a strong tank to your Procurer or Skiff (the most survivable of all the mining barges/Exhumers). The same with your Orca. It still may not deter them as they may ship up but if there are easier targets around then they are likely to choose them. Always mine aligned to a station or a safe. Never go afk. Use d-scan and the moment you see a Dessie on scan warp out. This is basic stuff for any miner anywhere.

Never agress a ganking ship first . You will be Concorded. Always set your safety to green in high sec to avoid this. It will not let you aggress someone unless it is safe to do so (ie they have a suspect flag). I wouldn't really advise using one as the point is to be as unattractive as possible to a ganker but if you really want to use another ship to protect your fleet then try ECM. A Blackbird, Falcon or even a Scorpion would be my pick. Wait for them to agress and then use racial jammers to prevent them bringing their full DPS. Chances are if you jam even 2 or 3 of them then they will fail to gank you before Concord arrives but it depends on their composition and numbers. Don't stick any ECM ship in an Orca. You won't have time to reship. Have them near the belt with you.

Run(Move), or fight.

All good advice above.

Also, it never hurts to have good intelligence. Before undocking, check EVE map, Dotlan maps, and kill boards. Who, what, where, and when. You need to know: Who they are, Who they gank, what they fly(fit), what they gank(fit), where they gank, and when they gank. Place them on your watch list. It's will not make you safe. Just well informed.

1. Use a tanked procurer (Not a Skiff, as a Skiff is still gankworthy)
2. Fit a Shield Gang link to your Orca
3. ignore the gankers

Easy isnt it? You cannot efficiently counter a gank, they are going to lose their ships anyway. If you need hints on how to fit, feel free to send me an evemail.

For the last time.....that has no affect at all or benefit. Argue all you want, but my own personal experience over 3 years trumps all.

ed: Also, if you are not AFK and keep an eye on Local AND what's going on around you it is almost impossible to get ganked.

But you can't be AFK. At all. It's not really that hard.

The best way to counter them, is to learn what alts they use to scout the area. If you see their scout in local, move systems. If you wait for the ganker to be in local before you react, chances are you are too late.

If you are next to your orca, simply swap your barge for a tankier ship. Concord will take care of them so you don't have to.
If you are interested in "saving" someone else, swap to a griffin or blackbird and jam them. Griffins are fragile but lock quick. Blackbirds are a decent middle ground.

I do not understand how an active align has no effect or benefit. Please elaborate.

How well can you mine while travelling at 75% of top speed in the direction of a station or safe spot? Unless webbed to death, probably not all that well.

You don't mine while travelling at 75% of your top speed. The point is when you see a ganker or an alt enter local (and you do have the New Order, Miniluv and any known ganking or griefing corps/alliances set red right?) you immediately warp to a station or safe. Weirdly enough being aligned cuts out your align time saving you a few seconds. Combined with the other measures I laid out it helps.

In low and null you always mine aligned. As soon as a neut or red enters local, warp.

Maybe I wasn't clear. You can manually adjust your speed. Travel between two gates/safes/stations/celestial are that are opposite to each other. Helps you get up to speed quicker and should help with bumpers as well. Don't just sit there stationary and don't just orbit either.

To answer the question no.

It is a bad idea to use an orca in such a way.

It will not work with any ship that you put in the ship bay.

Your best counter is to bait with a very buffer heavy miner and have ecm around if you have buddies that can help make it even tougher on them.

Orca in fleet can run shield transporter or energy transporter if you have a T1 logi helping the fleet.
Energy transporter with logi is for fleets with 10 or more pilots if you expect not to cut hard into the average player isk per hour.

-10 chars are free to be aggressed at any time. It is why killrights against them and wardecs vs them are meaningless.

no need to set NO red as they are very friendly people and happily welcome gallente miners into their community. Permit tank is very cost effective.
