Tip for Fresh Newbies - Say No to Gank'ers and Make Some ISK

[Intro]

If you're a fresh newbie, one to three weeks old pilot, you might find this post a good read. If you're a troll, you'll troll it anyway, so do as you wish. Back to the fresh newbie.

In the following I'm assuming that you have started to play Eve by chance, that is you don't have a bunch of friends here that are "Eve veterans", you're ISK poor, you don't want to Plex your account, you didn't have much fun so far, you've heard/read stories about gank'ers/gate camps and about Eve being such a dangerous place(high, low, null sec), you know that you're account can hold three characters, you know what the basic terms: clone, SP, star map, align, jump, warp, bookmark locations, overview, d-scan, local, wreck, loot, market place, cloack, trade hub; mean, and, finally, you wonder what the hell is left for you to do in this dark place.

[Trolls: Holly ****, you made a lot of assumptions there!]

If you're not familiar with some of the terms used in the last paragraph start abusing google or check some of the links there. Now, good people will send you this as a reply, and advise you to apply to a EveUni like teaching corporation. Another great advice you'll get is - "don't fly what you can't afford to lose", and this post concentrate on how to use this to your advantage. There is one ship - the rookie ship, and there is one clone - the no SP clone, that you don't mind losing. Why? Because they are free. You: "Ok, I'm hooked! what's next?" While doing your thing with your main character, when you're bored you can try to have fun by doing this!

[Say No to Gank'ers and Make Some ISK]

Gank'ers are "mean" people, if you go close to them they will pew, ..., pew you without thinking twice. How can a newbie in a rookie ship on a no SP character can fight them? You can't, at least, you can't do it in a "muhaha ... I blow up your ship" way. However, you can always try to steal their loot. It seems to me to be a fair trade.

It goes like this:

  1. You use your no SP character with your free rookie ship: for god sake take some time and do a proper setup of the overview.
  2. Search the map for systems where gank'ers like to stay cloaked most of the time waiting for the big fishes to come: i.e. a main entrance system to the null-sec;
  3. Look for the closest station to that system that has medical services and move your clone there; you'll die a lot and you don't want to travel 30 jumps or so every time that happens.
  4. Go to the system the gank'ers are, they will be at the gate right after you jump and they will be probably cloaked, and do some practice on “get a hell out of there as fast as you can when bored people start shooting at you”; hint - stay aligned and get comfortable using the keyboard shortcuts. Use local and d-scan to figure it out if gank'ers are present at the gate or not.
  5. After you get better at staying alive while running from bad-ass wanna be, start making bookmarks at different distances from the gate.
  6. Now, stay at around 500 km from the gate and wait for the other player wrecks, that correspond to good ships, to pop up on your overview while you stay aligned; don't be a ... pilot and forget to stay aligned. Warp to 0 km and steal the loot, after that dock into the main station and leave your stuff there.
  7. When you die or manage to steal something, repeat the line 6.

You don't need any skill to do any of the above things and is risk free. All you have to lose is time, your time. So do this when you're really bored and you have nothing else better to do in Eve etc. etc. How much ISK can you make out of this activity? Since almost all the loot(other Players Wrecks) there is Tech II or Faction, you can gain a two digit number in millions per hour with the exact amount depending mainly on how lucky you get. You need to sell the stuff you manage to steal in the same system via sell orders, don't do it via buy orders. Your income can be 70m, 10m or 30m per hour or whatever. If you're doing less than 10m per hour you are doing something wrong. As you can see this is not exactly throw away money for a fresh pilot, hence my claim at the very beginning of the post that this might interest you.

To end this long post, whatever you chose to do in Eve try to have fun! This is just one of the many, ...many things you can try in Eve!

This post was inspired by this:

Quote:
[In retrospect, since almost all the loot(other Players wrecks) there is Tech II or Faction, I think this is the easiest way to make some ISK to get you starting as new pilot(first week or so). You make a second character which you'll never develop, and go steal the loot of gank'ers. They are in the same places and most of the time they want to stay cloaked, not chasing you in a rookie ship. They are not there for you. You need no skill of any kind and you have really zero risk involved. And yes, I know about Ninja Salvaging but that activity doesn't have zero risk and does need some SP.]

To all, feel free to share your thoughts on this!

Fun idea !
I'm going to create an alt just to try this Cool

To make it perfect, we'd need to direct the new players to some links for each step you explain, like a link to medical clones, bookmarks, etc...

Edit : thanks to EVE-UNI for their great wiki.

Another idea, though requiring some ISK investment and training time, is to bring a bunch of salvagers out with you. While not as disposable as a noobship, any salvaging ship with some salvager 1s + a salvage tackle rig or two can salvage t2 wrecks. This works particularly well since most loot will have been taken by the victor of the fight, but most people don't fit a salvager to their PVP ships.

Sounds so good I might make an alt just for that

Wouldn't it be even better to do this in high sec space? Find a popular ganking spot near Jita, wait for some juicy ship to get ganked by a fleet of Catalysts - who then get annihilated by Concord, and then rush in and loot the wreck before the Catalyst's freighter can get there.

Maybe?

@Tao Dolcino: Thanks for the suggestion. Some links were added.

@Riel Saigo: I honestly have no idea, I didn't try it. Smile

Confirming that this is best fine in high sec. Watch out though. Once you loot the wreck you will be fair game fir any one in the area & gankers HATE this so they will hunt you. Have fun
