CCP reintroducing the Gold Magate and adding in new Guardian-Vexors through Somer Blink

Devpost explaining why
Blink page detailing the prizes
History about the unique ships
Nearly complete list of unique ships and current owners

I know most of you will never look in the In-Game Events and Gatherings section where you would find out that CCP is attempting to destroy Eve Online's treasured history because they want to have "community engagement." Essentially they are reintroducing the Gold Magnate:
Quote:
The Gold Magnate was a unique ship given as the first place prize for the Amarr Championship competition. However, in 2004, Tyrrax Thorrk, the owner of the Gold Magnate, took the ship into combat. Eventually, the ship was destroyed by the infamous m0o pirates and subsequently, the Gold Magnate no longer exists.

The are also creating new Guardian-Vexors:
Quote:
Fifty Guardian Vexors were given out as part of an event. It is suspected that fewer than 20 still exist today. Their attributes originally are not notable: they were merely Vexors with an extra missile hardpoint. Their value came not from the ability, but solely the rarity of this limited edition ship. However, when changes in game mechanics removed from ships special abilities to control more than five combat drones, this ship was not changed, and its ability to control up to five extra drones made it extremely powerful. Unfortunately, its high price tag ensures that even those who own one will most likely not use it in combat.

In my opinion this is destroying part of Eve's history. Those ships were prime examples of what makes Eve Online so awesome. Yes, there may have been only one Gold Magnate to ever exist. Yes, it may have died. It is a fantastic example of one of the great rules of Eve: "Don't fly what you can't afford to lose." One of the reasons Tyrrax Thorrk is well known is because he died flying a unique ship that would never be brought back. He made the decision that he could afford to lose it and ended up losing the only Gold Magnate to ever exist up until now. CCP is going to destroy this history by adding in more.

The Guardian-Vexor on the other hand has a different history. Despite being the only sub-capital ship to still be able to use 10 drones, they demand a very high price and many reside in collections. Not only is adding more Guardian-Vexors to the game bad because it destroys the value of those that currently exist, but it helps destroy another reason Eve Online is so awesome: Certain things are only achievable through hard work... or stealing it. The limited nature of some of the things in Eve which means very few people will ever be able to take part in certain things give people something to strive for. Anyone can fly an AT/Limited ship. But not everyone has the skill to be part of the winning AT team, the ability to make the billions of isk to buy the few AT/Limited ships that will be sold, or the expertise to steal one. These ships are an example of what separates those that can and those that can't. Introducing more of a limited ship destroys this.

I hope you all will take the time to tell CCP to stop destroying Eve Online's history and ruining the things that make Eve great. Tell then to stop this madness now before they release more limited ships such as the Opux Luxury Yacht, Silver Magnate, or other limited issue ships.

Also a quote for the ages:

handing out anything via lottery is beyond a ******** idea...

after all the tech 2 lottery was such a good idea.

allow them to be invented or just don't do it. this also goes for all tourney ships too.

Oh give it a break. Theyre not gonna flood the market with the damn things. I swear eve players are more than ever before trying really hard to find things to cry about.

Without having read anything about it or such... isn't this essentially giving Somer ISK straight off - or are they running it without paying for the tickets?

Also not sure how I feel about introducing these rare ships again, that's one of the things I love about EVE (or has been until now apparently) that if something unique and rare is destroyed - it's gone - so bringing them back isn't something I feel instantly happy about.

Opux's next?

No, this is the eve equivalent of complaining that you had to sell your diamond encrusted yacht after the markets crashed, and now all you have left are the two gold plated yachts. And one of them doesn't even have a second helipad!

Any play at all gives a ticket, even participation in the free Blinks. When the timer ends, the ticket list will be published for download and then we'll (with much gratitude) be using Dice to draw a winner :)

I couldn't give a rats ass that they're adding more guardian vexors.

However, the fact that they are giving them exclusively to a single player group to distribute as they see fit bothers the hell out of me now that I think about it.

Very reminiscent of T20 tbh. Either have CCP stage an event "in honor of blink" where all accounts randomly have a chance to win one, or don't have the event at all.

What came to mind was the people that use ISK to buy the tickets, hence why I was wondering/feeling/thought about this, and if there is any arrengement between you guys and CCP.

1. CCP giving you Goldy.
2. You sell tickets worth 10T for a chance to win said Goldy.
3. ???
4. One lucky pilot got a Goldy you guys got 10T ISK for free

(and yes I know that it's not 10T pure ISK since many many many will use credit which you guys basically create out of thin air, but for example we could say people deposit pure ISK for 50b and you guys would have been given 50b for free kinda).

Is there any quid pro quo between you and CCP in this event? (Hopefully or CCP is going to get flooded with requests from people wanting free items lol)

The original plan was for the CCP donated prizes to be a Bonk, and to roll the Bonk earnings straight back into the Eve Vegas sponsorship (detailed here: https://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/eve-vegas-2013-1/ )

But we wanted to give folks a chance at these hulls that didn't want to spend any ISK on our site too, so we moved the tickets to "any play" and are rolling any residual profit from this event back to the Vegas event sponsorship.

Speaking of - make sure you seek me out while you're there if you get some free time. I'll be handing out said prizes all weekend :)

This definitely deprives EvE from its mystique and very special atmosphere... really sad that CCP is even thinking of doing that. As one already mentioned. This is EvE's history and should stay as it is, period.

Wow, I have been expecting CCP to continue to reintroduce limited edition ships for promotions and gift packages but this really takes it to a whole new level, really devalues the history of the game. At least they have picked ships and quantities that are sensible but the message is clear: No ship is exempt from being seeded in future.

Giving them out via one of the richest groups in eve just makes it worse.

should've just given them to us

we'd just run a convoy of Gold Magnates and Guardian Vexors around the map on autopilot until they're all blown up

Wait a second.... your "residual profit" is in ISK, no? How can you sponsor a RL event, i.e. EVE Vegas, with ISK? How does that work exactly? Because converting ISK into RL money is prohibited, is it not?

I don't believe in artificial rarity.
It's maybe interesting in terms of the alliance prices, but in any other way there should be no restriction in how many things exits in the game.
They may be hard to get, they may given out at special circumstances, but there should be a chance for everyone to get one - even if it is merely theoretical.

There is/was always the chance. Earn enough isk and try to convince a holder of a rare item of selling it.

As detailed in the link you quoted - we're sponsoring the PVP tourney happening at Eve Vegas with ISK prizes, and I'm attending to hand out ISK prizes as well.

We've sponsored several dozen RL meetups in this fashion so far, although this one is by far the biggest amount of sponsorship to date :)
