…too bad you can't buy any win with it.

OK. Pay-to-(pick one: T3, Faction Bling, Cap)

The necessary ingredients for "win" are, good equipment, good player skills, and good character skills.

Good equipment you can buy easily if you sell PLEX, yes. But that doesn't directly lead to a win. Every class of ship has its downsides and can be defeated with significantly less expensive or skill-intensive ships and setups. Unless you're flying T1 frigates, in which case it's kind of hard to get any cheaper (but that's quite obviously not P2W). Most modules people would associate with P2W generally have the same downsides as other modules of the same type, and sometimes they have significantly greater downsides (e.g. T2 stasis web uses 1 PG, Tobias' Modified Stasis Web uses 2200 PG as an extreme example). Many of these are also rare enough that it might not matter how much you're willing to pay for them, you still won't be able to buy one because the supply just isn't there.

Good character skills you can't buy, unless you buy a character that has the skills that you want/need. But this isn't pay to win for several reasons, most significantly being that trying to pay for characters by selling PLEX gets very expensive, very quickly. This discourages the vast, vast majority of people from trying such a thing. The amount of people willing to put down hundreds or thousands of dollars/euros/pounds for a character are so few and far between that this isn't really much of a consideration.

Good player skills can't be bought, period. They only come with a solid combination of experience and theory.

And even if you are a highly competent pilot with the best equipment and skills, you're still not going to win all of the time. Sometimes you'll be severely outnumbered. Sometimes you'll be countered. And sometimes you'll make mistakes.

So we have essentially a system that lets you buy, using PLEX, realistically only one out of the three necessary ingredients for "win". Hardly makes the game pay-to-win.

I've watch item prices soar to almost double what they were before in those years as well. 3 years ago an Apocalypse could be bought, fit and insured for slightly more than the hull value at less then the cost of an Apocalypse hull now.

CCP stands to lose some yearly subscribers if they go too far down this path.

Plex cost is still slightly higher at a 25% discount and someone else paying is still someone paying for the account.

It is the "slightly" that bothers me, why lock in for a year when I can go month to month for a negligible amount more. Since EVE is one of the last MMOs that succeeds as a subscription model, incentives for month to month over yearly subscriptions does not seem like a wise decision to me.

You already can. It is still cheaper even with this temporary deal to buy 3 months of game time or 6 months of game time than it is with 25% off Plex.

Hey look an anonymously posted article to a goon news site, this isn't a clever attempt at lowering the plex price at all! I completely believe this unsourced article! Sales away!

Is it that much different than other companies that have once a year pricing discounts on yearly subscriptions? 12 Plex with the sale will be 12.49/each. 12 months with a yearly sub is 10.95/month. That's still a pretty nice discount, I'd say.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Odd, I got all 3 of those, and I buy PLEX with ISK and use them to fund my accounts. Did I pay to win?

Except for the part where it takes months (and sometimes years) to train the necessary skills for those ships. So really, it's pay to win (in 6-20 months)

Yeah, he left out the most important one.

Too bad you can.

Pay for a new T3 OGB character. Pay for high SP frigate character. Pay for subscription. Pay for faction fitted frigates. Kite with a LML Condor with HG Snakes at 20k at 6k ms? (kite as in press orbit 20km and f1 and win)

And people say you can't pay to win.

Then get owned by a TS scram arazu because you're clueless and got baited and lose your multibillion isk clone, faction bits and dignity when your killmail becomes an ALOD on TMC.

Why on earth would you spend all that money on a condor instead of a hookbill? Faction fitting frigates is moronic, but at least faction fit the ship that will give you the most payoff.

And why is this offer not available to the UK?

Amazon won't let me order due to not being in the US, this is pretty outrageous.

Three years ago, Apocs were built with botted dronespace minerals.

Now they cost a price that more nearly reflects the actual player effort required to build one. You might as well complain that your cost of living has increased because you can't use counterfeit money any more.

I just wanted to buy 6 PLEX for my accounts through Amazon but the offer is for US customers only... what a god damn rip-off... why should I have to subscribe for 12 months just to get the same thing as US players get for simply buying PLEX during a sale?

This sucks - and you just lost out on my 75$.

CCP, talk to Amazon and tell them that you also have many international players and that you'll only make such deals with them in the future if they don't simply exclude a large portion of your players for no good reason.

It's a ******* virtual purchase... why should stupid Amazon care about what silly address I enter - I'm paying by credit card, it doesn't get any more international then that.

I couldn't agree more, I'm sat here with my credit card in hand trying to purchase and both CCP and myself are losing out!

All of Amazon's direct download, product key and game connect purchases require a US billing address. The majority of the stuff sold through those means is regionally priced.
