Are T2 sentries mandatory for lvl 4 dominix?

You should always use Tech 2 weapon systems. Comparing tech 1 of a weapon vs tech 2 of another is unfair IE tech 1 sentries vs tech 2 cruise.

Fury Cruise with good fit can hit 800+ DPS at 100 KM+ but you will do a lot of volley counting. Damage type is selectable.
Tech 2 sentries will do 650-800 ish DPS at probably whatever range you want in the Domi. Your range and DPS will vary based on damage type.

For a gallente drone boat pilot, pretty much from level 2s onwards, the best mission boats are sentry vexor, sentry nvex, sentry myrmidon, sentry dominix with side tracks into sentry proteus, sentry ishtar.

There will inevitably be somewhere in that schedule of events where the pilot spends weeks training sentry V and where they have to use T1 sentries. I would expect that training galllente bs to iv, and all the turret supports to III is more time effective than sentry V, so I'd do those first, unless you are one of those wierdos that run racks of RR on solo boats and don't shoot guns.

I was one of those weirdos. I had Gallente BS 5 and T2 sentry drones but hadn't trained anything more than small guns. I had one small gun to pull aggro and it worked quite well since gun DPS on an armor tanked Dominix is only a small part of your DPS. Of course this was quite a few patches ago. I definateltty would train for T2 sentrys before T2 guns

I say go for t2 man, assuming you like using the drones.

I'm mainly drone spec and noticed a very nice difference when I upgraded :)

It's like arguing T2 guns vs Meta 4. No it's not mandatory, but then again if thats your philosphy why not spend 2 hours doing each mission with an assault frigate?

T2 Sentries should be first on your to-do list after you get T2 Omnis, followed by Gallente Battleship V and Drone Interfacing V.

Well, like others have said, it used to be a lot more mandatory before than it is now.

I've seen a lot of people claiming T2 sentries have better tracking than faction ones. This is a blind assumption. If you look at their stats you will find that faction sentries actually have better tracking that their T2 counterparts oddly enough. They are also have quite a bit more HP than T2 sentries. I still would choose T2 sentries over faction, but thought I would point this out as nearly everyone overlooks it.

I just came back from a 3yr break. I guess with some old skills that were removed I have ~2mil SP immediately available. I am trying to decide between a raven or Dominix to run lvl 4 missions. I only have 138mil ISK so while I can have the skills for a raven in about 24hrs I can't afford to buy one,

If I train a sentry Dominix I can have everything but T2 sentry drones in about 3 days. Then it is a 33d train fir T2 sentries. The big appeal to the dominix is #1 I like the dominix a lot, #2 it is WAY cheaper. I have about 10hrs per week to play so I can't afford to replace many lost ravens. Searching the forums indicates the Dominix is the safest (and perhaps most boring) level 4 mission runner.

So:
Are T2 sentries necessary for the dominix?
Am I better off to run lvl 3 complexes and fit a Raven?

Thank you in advance guys!

Here are the 2 fittings I'm considering:
Dominix
Raven

Why dont mix both and get
