Why is it know as the "worst" of the super carriers. As of the slot layout and bonuses I don't see whats wrong withit for sure?

The short version is:

Wyvern has a better tank
Aeon has the best tank of all, and it fits well with armor fleets
Nyx does the most DPS and fits well with armor fleets (And is fricking beautiful!)

That leaves the Hel, where the single most comment will be: "Primary the Hel."

Hmmm, I can see it as a good fleet booster and support ship but not sure what else to be honest.

If you're using it as "just another super in a super fleet", yes the Hel is disappointing.

If you're using it for really small scale stuff, it can be the best supercarrier of them all.

No sig.

Actually, the Hel isn't that bad. It doesn't even have the lowest EHP. Yet people always say so.

It's simple. Everyone has Armor Supers. So if you bring a Shield Super into your Armor Fleet, which is probably rolling with Archon support, you end up in an environment where you just shouldn't really be - and your enemy knows it, and he will most likely primary you.

To be accurate, the order in EHP is the following:

Wyvern > Aeon > Hel > Nyx.

All that while Shield Supers can also achieve the better resistance profile, which comes in handy when getting rep'd.

What makes the Hel bad is the following: The Archon is so superior in it's class and overshadows every other carrier in terms of logistics, that you'll have a hard time supporting a shield super fleet. If this get's tweaked for the chim to be on the same level (either by nerfing archon or by buffing chim, or both) you will most likely see a slow progression towards Shield Supers. Slow because of Armor Supers still being in place, and still being flown.

Pretty much this. It's startting to get better. There is a Good shield dread now (naglfar), and chimmies are not as far behind archons as they were. The main problem now is that supers are still, when all is said and done, a dps platform, and nyxs have far and away the most DPS, by a huge margin.

I used to fly a Hel on a different character back during Triumvirate days, and I can agree with both points being made in this thread. The Hel is not the "worst" and can really shine in smaller group actions, imo.

That said, I think one of the primary motivators of the armor supers being seen as better is because of Slave sets (and lack of shield equivalent)

Cost was also a factor, as armor tanking modules were generally much less expensive than shield...wyvern/hel were (and probably still are) practically forced to go top end officer modules, while an Aeon in particular can get away with Cores if the pilot wanted.

Armor also has the advantage of not losing tank slots to mid slot usage, but the mileage on those slots may vary =P

As time went on, more and more fresh Super pilots went with the armor mom's, super cap doctrine was developed to utilize this, and no one wants to be primary =P

An Aeon's tank is comprised of Hels, Nyxes, and Wyverns. Oh, and armor.

Wouldn't you like all that buffer BEFORE they start shooting your 35 billion isk ship?

For lowsec I would go with the Hel anyday, as much as it pains me to say that as an Amarrian. Simple for the reason in low you don't need all the EHP but the ability to get the bleep out is far more important.

and lets face it, it looks ******* awesome :)
