Jan 2012 != Q1 2012, which could be all the way to March 31st. Unless they said it's being released in Jan, I didn't catch that.

You must not have played the previous games.

There are actually quite a few different ships in the X series games, from small fighters all the way to capital ships.

Then there is the player modded ships, just about anything you can imagine will be released in time....just have to wait on the community to do it.

Sig blah blah blah blah

X Rebirth only allows you to personally fly one ship. You can still own a bunch of ships, and capital ships you can land on and walk around (You also give orders to captains of capital ships through conversation, and can wander around the bridge etc.).

At the poster above me: If that is indeed true then yippee. However, retailers are notorious for failing to actually know when release dates are.

X-Rebirth is different from the previous games.

You have one main ship, which you can customize heavily, but you don't control it directly. You just give orders to your second-in-command. That ship carry a large variety of drones, which you can control directly. And you can buy, build or own other ships, but you won't control any of them directly, either.

In short, the game is geared toward he assumption that the most fun you can have is flying a fast, nimble ship, while having large ships support you, rather than trying to steer around a giant space brick escorted by npc-controlled flies.

This is actually somewhat accurate. In X3TC if I wasn't running combat missions in my corvette I was in my discoverer scouting intustry locations for my mammoth. When it came to combat I launched my Solano force and jumped in my personal Venti to mix it up. Only if it was a massive engagement did I stay in my flagship because one Venti wouldn't tip the scales.

I will buy it in a heartbeat because they SLOWLY improve things yet allow almost limitless modding.

However every time I try to get into X3 TC I have to quickly give up. There is always a showstopper which is usually something absurd like an enemy force that camps the station you are docked at and never leaves.

Not sure if talking about EVE or X3 Big smile

I am looking forward to the game. But, they really, really need to do something with the overly complicated GUI of the game. The game was great except the control scheme/GUI. And they need to get new character graphics/actors as well, the previous one was just too goofy. I want something a bit more straight forward.

Just a quick update, Egosoft just announced an expansion for X3TC and it is getting released on the 15.12. http://www.egosoft.com/news/current_en.php

It seems the story is about to fill some gaps between the X3 TC story and the changes in X3 Rebirth. I still expect it to be a mini-expansion and it will certainly not keep me away from EVE for long.

I think EVE is the MMO for rebirth. Except for EVE not having industrial factories really.

Usually end up hating X3 - hated that missile spam in the expansion even though the stock market was a nice touch. Wish they gave you your own space as well to build things on. Felt really wierd having to use other people's land to build things on.
