Gatecrashing: Bumped by the gate

http://youtu.be/K016W_5Jbjc :3 anyone else hate when this happens? any time you gatecrash with a fast frig, there is a small chance your ship might get bumped away from the gate before you can jump, if your ship is fast enough, personly I lost a few ceptors in my day when gatecrashing big camps (for fun lol), last time was where they were only able to web/scram/paint and maybe kill 10-30% of my shields before I jumped out. :D after having done this a few times, I was unlucky to hit the gate at just the "right" angle and right speed... all this while spamming jump, I suddenly found myself first within 0-1km of the gate, and then 3-4km away again :D hilarious way to lose a ship (and pod)

Now keep in mind, I wouldn't call this whining, it's only a cheap ceptor, and it wasn't because this camp was "good" at stopping me from getting to the gate. this was a combination of gates collision size (bumping radius) combined with the delay between pressing jump (when in range) to when the game actually says "im jumping now so I am invulnerable and you can't bump me away"

the video above is an extreme example, with max speed from distance, but keep in mind it can happen from even 12km with only moving about 3-6km/s, the chance is just much smaller... in an attempt to recreate the scenario I did about 60+ gatecrashes, with a 5100 m/s stiletto, where it happened once, (before realizing I had forgot to turn on fraps lol)

this thread isn't really a "bug report" since I already reported it, even in the past... since it is something that is hard to recreate, and very few people experience it, maybe even fewer experience even while trying to gatecrash in a gatecamp... no this thread is to get attention to this "insignificant problem" and to get an idea of how many others have experienced it?

If I had to guess, I would say that you could aim to "overshoot" the gate and keep better control of your MWD timing. I don't really fly interceptors much, and haven't had your problem, so I don't know.

I think that ships should take damage and possibly explode when approaching the gate like that.

:) to be honest, that might actually increase the chance of it happening if your ship is fast enough if you move faster than the diameter of the gate (area of wherein your in jumping range) as it only checks ever 1hz (server tick)

but it all depends on your speed, the second part is that your speed of the ship actually adjusts depending on the distance from what you want to "approach/jump" to and your max speed.... interresting fact, on the test server I tried with skirmish links, dramiel, HG snakes and overloaded mwd, to click jump from 12km to gate, the result was a dramiel only going about 1-3 km/s (with max speed of 13-14km/s), compared to 3-5 km/s when the max speed was only 8km/s (eves mechanics are strange sometimes)

Do a :

Control+Shift+Alt+M to get up the Monitor

Select the 'Network' tab

1) Try SPAMMING the jump button as you MWD to the gate and record the VALUES.
2) Now, try one more time, but without SPAMMING the jump button and record the VALUES.
3) Finally, try one last time, this time while having the gate locked, click 'Jump' one time and record the VALUES.

Compare the results

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships
