There are 3 upcoming Valve's announcement.

1. Steam OS
2. Steam Machine
3.Valve's Controller

One is already announced. The OS. Wasn't that surprised. I simply laughed. I really don't know whether Valve is crazy, cocky, or genius (or all 3).

But so far, valve is really stepping up their game. Family Plan is what I been waiting for the most. I own 340+ games and wouldn't mind sharing with my relatives and MAYBE friends. :P

What's your thoughts so far?

Edit:

As expected Steam machine!

Regarding 1. I have been reading comments on Engadget. I will be one of those people who simply hooks up his pc to the tv. I don't need another os.

There is already a Steam OS thread in GD.

Maybe one of them will finally be an announcement for Half Life 3: The Longest Cliffhanger Ever?

2: Half Life Episode 3
3: Valve will be doing a spaceship MMO and although it will be totally 'like EVE' it's -not- biting off EVE. also kickstarter.

Oh is it? I didn't check there. So its either someone got a small brain and thought its a good idea to post there since it doesn't belong there or a related but different topic.

since when has that ever stopped anyone from posting there?

anyway I must say I am somewhat curious about the steam os. Might be interesting if it could run windowsgames without a need for emulator, but doubt that'll happen

No they went one step further.

Of course, most of the games on Steam are Windows only, and are not compatible with Linux. To combat this, SteamOS allows for any connected PC running Windows (or OSX for Mac games) to sling signals to the SteamOS machine over the network.

Basically what they are saying is that you need a computer with windows streaming to your computer with SteamOS in order to play games. Of course anyone with half a braincell will realize that you can gain the same effect if you just sit at the windows computer.

it does open the door to some pretty awesome stuff. it might also make the desktop computer the "new" living room console, needing only a cheap-ish steambox attached to the tv.

will this be the PC comeback at consoles? who knows, but the times seem to be exciting.

The cynical git in me says half life 3 is a no no.

Heres my guess.

1. Steam OS
2. Steambox im guessing they call it pistonpower or something.
3. Team fortress classic 2. P

yeah, so basicly its still a windows computer playing the game and you just remote acces it. So you are still running on windows, AND it has the added benefit of needing a fast(I assune) and definetly stable internet connection to do so Roll
thats not what I call one step further, but rather 1 step back and a few to the side

Well, i dont know about other games, but in a pc used by day care kids, its been using offfline steam for about 3-4 years, mainly playing games like plants vs zombies. No problems :) dont know about good games though like bioshock maybe or games from ubicrap.

Btw, that PvZ still got the old dancing zombie, none of that new dancing zombie remake :-P

OT:
Every time I see the name Valve, I think of the book A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole,. The obese, eccentric, intellectual nerd mama's boy protagonist has trouble with his "valve." Example from his diary:

“Social Note: I have sought escape in the Prytania [a movie theater the hero goes to] on more than one occasion, pulled by the attractions of some technicolored horrors, filmed abortions that were offenses against any criteria of taste and decency, reels and reels of perversion and blasphemy that stunned my disbelieving eyes, the shocked my virginal mind, and sealed my valve.”

Anybody read that book? Some pretty good comedy in there.

On-topic:
Looking forward to the new "share Steam games with family and friends" thing. Can now go head-to-head with my kids in Mount & Blade and Worms Armageddon!

I already built my "steambox" a long time ago, so it really wasn't much of a surprise.
