With these RMT sites, why don't CCP just set up sting operations, buying a small item, tracking it back, then banning the living hell out of everyone in the chain?

You think we don't? Cool

It's confirmed, CCP give RMTer's real life monies.

Wait... So CCP is actively engaged in entrapment?

They're not the government, they don't play by US rules, there's no legal entitlement to play EVE and CCP have a direct financial incentive not to ban people who wouldn't be RMTing if they weren't "entrapped".

What's the problem?

Not surprised...

Way to go EN24!

Riverini should use it in his campaign for CSM! It'll look good with the exclusive leaks!

Well, unless you have various russian web payment systems (WebMoney, Yandex-money) to cover multiple russian sites with controlled purchases..

I am sure they have all the bases covered. I mean, after all, they do have a Russian section here on the forums the last time I checked. Blink

it realy would not suprize me if ccp did not activaly sell ISK on ebay and other such sites. that way they know exactly who is buying it from them then they get the money for the isk then have stats for a baned account for rmt at the same time. both ways looking good on them. makeing money from the sale of an item thats never gona see thelight of day as soon as the sale is complete :)

That is fraud and would not look good on them at all.

I'm currently looking at Eve News24, and there's a banner offering "Fully equipped ships for sale. 40% discount in September !". Thinking this was some kind of ad for an in game industry corp, I check the site out, and see a list of ships and items all being offered for USD, not ISK.
So are Eve News24 officially supporting RMT now?

Your targeted ads indicate:
a) you don't understand cause and effect, or
b) pedophilia.

How odd.

I get no ads, no scripts that I don't specifically allow and no trackers not in my white list.

Has the art of setting up a browser properly been completely lost on the Facebook generation?

Entrapment is inducing a person to commit a crime they would hot have otherwise committed. For something ccp would do to be called entrapment, they'd have to intentionally go out and find a person who isn't even considering RMT and then convince that person to RMT.

Merely offering a person a chance to do what they were going to do anyways (ie conducting a sting) is not entrapment. A cop pretending to be a hooker (in an area known for prostitution) getting picked up by a guy who was looking for a hooker anyway is an example of something IRL that isn't entrapment (though, let me tell you from personal experience, EVERY "john" and his lawyer tries to claim it was, and they never succeed).

Entrapment is inducing someone to commit a CRIME.

Buying ISK is not a crime, it is a breach of a licensing agreement and as such is it dealt with under the consequences of that agreement (CCP having the right to take actions up to and including the revocation of your right to use the EVE software). Rules about entrapment do not apply here; those apply only to prosecutions in courts of law.

I think if a cop posing as a hooker walks up to a guy and says; "do you want sex for money" that would be entrapment wouldn't it?

I might of misunderstood but it sounded to me like the dev was eluding to CCP setting up fake RMT sites to punish people taking advantage of their offer. If that's they case i think it's wrong of them to so.

I totally support doing things to stop RMT but i don't like this method. I had a friend that started playing eve and he stumbled on a sight where you could buy implants and ships. It wasn't until he told everyone in corp about this great new site he found, that we were able to enlighten him as to the error of his ways.

edit: @ Sabriz Adoudel thanks for the clarification but i wan't actually saying CCP were enticing people to commit a real crime, just that they are enticing people break their own rules... But you are right, they can employ any shady tactics they want.

The other way around.
The example would go with the cop calling the alfons and asking for a date, but he wants to hand over the cash to the alfons, then they catch the alfons.
What we're told here is that they buy* a small item from an RMT'er, and then ban him.
Specifically, CCP Stillman said they did not set up CCP RMT rings.

As long as there are PvE bots to grind mindless PvE content; As long as there are people stupid enough to download trojans; As long as idiots share passwords between unsecured forum databases and games they play, there will be a clever - usually third-world - person selling ________ online currency.
