Suggestion for a rail based BS for missioning?

Hi everyone,

coming back to the game after a prolonged break.

At the moment I am looking for a rail based BS.

I have T2 rails as well as Gallente BS V and all other BS IV.

Is there at the moment a ship that can be considered even half decent? When I left the game some time ago, rail were generally considered terribad.

I have high missle and drone skills as well, but I am looking for something more "active" then a Rattler and beeing semi afk.

Any help is much appreciated :)

Well you could try using a hyperion or navy megathron with MJD (micro jump drive) and sniping targets from 100km, for this kind of mission running you need very little tank if you are doing missions in gallente space which I presume you will be since you are restricted to kin/therm dmg type.

I am not at home atm but when I get I will post some fits you might consider using that utilize MJD tactic unless someone beats me to it...

Best regards

Hyperion MJD fit

High slots

6x425mm Railgun II
1xDrone link augmentator II

Med slots

3xTracking computer II
1xLarge Micro Jump Drive
1xSensor booster

Low slots

4xMagnetic field stabilizer II
2 slots for specific armor hardeners
1xLarge ancillary armor repairer

Rigs

Large auxiliary nano pump
Large semiconductor memory cell
Large processor overclocking unit

5xWarden II's and 5xhobgoblin II's in your drone bay

You should have around 756 dps at 100km range with Caldari navy thorium charges and wardens out. With MJD fitted tactic you need little tank and that is why I option the usage of ancillary armor repairer since you will be just pulsing it or not using it at all...

Megathron navy issue MJD fit

High slots

7x425mm Railgun II
1xDrone link augmentor II

Med slots

2xTracking computer II
1xSensor booster
1xMicro jump drive

Low slots

4xMagnetic field stabilizer II
2 slots for specific armor hardeners
1xLarge ancillary armor repairer
1 slot for either capacitor power relay or a tracking enhancer your choice

Rigs

2xLarge semiconductor memory cell
1xLarge processor overclocking unit

With this fit you should have around 771dps at 100km range with wardens out but better tracking than Hyperion.

I am sure these are not ideal fits and there are certainly some things I missed but I am confident that they would work if used properly.

I have tested MJD fit tactics on a t1 hyperion and have been doing missions in gallente space w/o any problems it just takes alot of time since that fit has almost half the dps that these 2 fits have... But tank is more than enough even with taking so much time to kill targets.

Best regards

Megathron lacks CPU to fit a 425mm rail fit comfortably and the small drone bay is quite annoying, personally I would use a Hyperion for a rail missioning BS.

My L3 mission fit for a Megathron. 100km sniping. Yet to test it on a L4 mission, but I don't know if it would handle it solo. If you go with a Vindicator you will need to give the F-90 positional sensor subroutine with a targeting range script to get 100km range + a second tracking computer (Vindi has more medium slots). A Vindicator will allow T2 guns to be equipped if the 1600mm plate is replaced with an Adaptive nano membrane (T2 or faction)

Megathron L3 Mission Runner
High slot
7 x 425mm Prototype Gauss Gun

Medium slot
2 x Cap recharger
F-90 Positional sensor subroutines (no script)
Optical Tracking Computer I (use T2 if you have the training

Low slot
2 x Tracking Enhancer
2 x Magnetic Field Stabilizer
Imperial Navy Large Armor Repair
Damage Control II
1600mm Reinforced Steel plates

Rigs
3 x Trimark Armor Pump I

Drones
Hobgoblin x 15. Replace this with what ever your training allows.

EHP: 45136

Use Caldari Antimatter L when they're close range. Caldari Iron Charge L when they're at long range. Use the drones to take out frigs at close range. Also try to move away from them as you fire. Keep them at long range. This fit isn't cap stable. Lasts 2:28 with everything running. But if you keep at range this shouldn't be a problem.

Personal I love the Megathron. When I get the T2 rails the fun will begin. 45 days of training to go :(

Dunno if anyone will agree with my build. Please feel free to improve on it.

If you want a fun railgun toy and since we are throwing around faction fits/ships anyway why not a vindicator?
I assume you will be fighting serpentis or guristas mainly but just incase i added an explosive armor rig.

Arrow 950 dps with guns alone (48km optimal and 51km falloff)
Arrow 1244 dps with garde II's
Arrow 480 dps tank against serp/guristas (you REALLY dont need anymore since stuff is going to die extremely fast)
Arrow if you switch to tracking scripts and web target frigates , more often then not you will be able to hit them with the main guns. exceptions are webifier drones and a few others.

You shouldn't mix buffer and active tanks, such as in your case you have both armor repairer and 1600 plate, you should be fitting specific armor hardeners instead.

I don't know how you plan on getting to 100km range when you don't have a micro jump drive fitted. You could try slowboating but that would take ages and this goes with the presumption that you are not already agroed and without a prop mod you will never be able to put that much distance between you and the npcs.

You shouldn't really be doing level 3 missions in a battleship anyways, you should be using a battlecruiser or a cruiser, pref battlecruiser since they have more slots.

Read up some PvE fitting guides for example https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Level_4_mission_ship_fits for level 4 missions or when it comes to general fitting try reading this https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Fitting_ships . Or you could go to battleclinic loadout browser website and find the ship you want to fly and see how people fit it, or plain google it.

Hope this helps you out

800 DPS with 101km Optimal + 12km falloff. Anything too close to track gets the 855 DPS Ogres.

edit: 0.086 tracking for Gardes, versus 0.028 for 425 railguns on a Megathron (tracking bonus) with two TCs with tracking speed scripts.

Vindicator for top rail damage. Kronos if you want to loot. Navy Dominix if you want massive damage and don't mind being more than a 50% drone boat (still lots of railing going on).

The Hyperion, Rokh and (Navy) Mega should work, but they aren't really the best at anything.

Hrmph. Fine. See 425 fit below.

Here are pyfa graphs between the fits posted previously, except:
* Vinidi uses T1 ammo. All use T1 antimatter.
* Railguns use 5% damage and %RoF implants
* fyi: Vindi requires a 1% cpu implant.
Be sure to click '100%' to see graphs in full size.

Versus stationary target
Vinidi is on top out to 40km. Drones+425 Domi out to 60km. Drone Domi to 100+km.

Versus orbiting cruiser
Drones+425 out to 60km. Drone Domi out to 100+km.

Targeting Range:
Vindi: 62.5km (60km drone)
Drone Domi: 140km (108km drones)
Drone+425 Domi: 87.5km (60km drone)
Navy Mega: 118km (84km drone)
Hyperion: 95.5km (84km drone)

The pyfa DPS graph doesn't show the limitations of targeting range, i.e. the Vindi's applied DPS will be somewhat limited past 62.5km.

@Osto, you need more Omnis, also with 4 DDAs the Sentry damage rig is worthless, get a Drone Scope Chip instead.

If you want something that's primarily rails and is cheap you should go for the Hyperion, it gives great bang for buck. Megathron is kinda subpar because you can't capitalize on it's good speed so all it has over Hyperion is a tiny bit more gun dps and the tracking bonus, which while is nice, having 5 sentries and more mids for damage application definitely makes up for the lack of tracking bonus.

Does 985dps to 50km optimal, or 721 dps to lock range (93km). Has plenty of tank against any faction (400 against Angels at worst). There's enough fitting room to drop an Omni/Capacitor booster for a prop mod of choice on missions where you need it. Full T2 so it's as cheap as it can get for a mission BS and for a full T2 BS it's stats are very impressive.
