Doh! It's so obvious in hindsight! If you only have six days to create everything and supercomputers weren't invented until ~10,000 years after creation, then the math had to be quick and easy.

You don't need math to create anything. All you need is something to work with.
And creator himself can be material to work with in the first place.

Custom ship skins, character creator style "repaint". Bring it!

To anyone frustrated because of their inability to comprehend, just be happy with this part: "Physicists have discovered a jewel-like geometric object that dramatically simplifies calculations of particle interactions and challenges the notion that space and time are fundamental components of reality."

For anyone wanting a little more in depth, there is the rest of the article which I think does a pretty decent job of explaining for those that are familiar with quantum mechanics or works in the field. But, it is not very pedagogical though.
