I can't think of any way they can fully implement a pay 2 win strategy in Eve thats not already in place. Buy GTC, buy toon. Buy more GTC, buy ships. Get popped/podded and whine on forums that your deadspace fitted faction ship got massacred by a roaming frigate gang, priceless.

In terms of buying actual items that should be player produced but not with money or GTC, it would destabilize our economy and send Eve down the drain pretty dang quick. Vanity items on the other hand I support with the current implementation even though I hate it as it serves as a isk drain and provides no advantage.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

I found this article about how Diablo 3's Auction House is being shutdown for essentially undermining the core gameplay and reward factor that players's achieve through that gameplay. Hopefully CCP will keep this in mind and not go this way... that EA-guy, Mr. Wutziz Naim, should read this article.

Maybe I'm under-informed... dunno. Perhaps. What are your thoughts?

You are not underinformed, just naive. Read the PR spin again, paying special note to the dates involved, and think about it for a minute or two ...

- They are shutting it down two full years after the fact, so long that any damage it did was done ages ago.
- They are shutting it down because it has generated what money was possible, the "teenagers w. CC's" it was designed to exploit moved on to better things some time ago.
- They are shutting it down in an attempt to manipulate the historical account of the game, D1 and D2 both had tremendous staying power having people playing and talking about them years after what seemed reasonable .. D3 will (because of the AH) be known as a cash-grab akin to the crap created by Zynga and most modern app-games.

They are not sacrificing anything at all while hoping that the spin campaign will delude enough people that D3 will be remembered fondly, as a 'good game' , rather than what it was .. Blizzard did what most nouveau rich do (both individuals and companies), made a money grab to become even richer, only to realise that their legacy just took a double barrel to the face.

As for anyone from EA needing to read anything related to spinning gold from manure, they have been basing their business model on that for as long as I can remember, surviving only because of consumer naivete taken advantage of with familiarity manipulation and staggeringly massive advertising expenditures.

So a hearty ..|.. to Blizzard and EA both from here.

I'm totally all for vanity MT.

And screw you guys that can't figure out how to buy a PLEX with ISK or keep ignoring the ISK market for all these things.

+1 Tao Delcino

I said basically the same thing in another thread. I'm really heartened to see likes to your post in this one. I sometimes feel like I'm maybe the only person clinging to the old school way of paying for an MMO sub.

MT's create their own spiral to doom. Either the items make no difference in game, and are therefore totally pointless- such as aurum and buying Space Barbie clothes....or.....they do matter and the game instantly becomes Pay To Win.

Neither scenario improves Eve.

I played Diablo 3 for about 2 weeks then quit. There is no point in going through the dungeons since I can buy all the best gear on the AH. They totally undermined their core game mechanic of grinding for the best loot to progress in the game by allowing you to BUY the best loot.

The itemization for that game was and is still horrible.

Diablo 3 is just a bad game.

MT for vanity items is fine. Anything that helps me (or my ship) look different from you (in any game) is a good thing IMO.

I thought "This is a WIDot fail thread" was a given. Blink

Thanks for the perspective. I agree.
