Preventing bumping?

I read that the devs consider bumping legal because there are ways to prevent being bumped. What are those ways?

Just to be clear, I mean bumping of miners, which is why I posted in this forum. Specifically ice miners, who can't recoup some of a laser's spin by cancelling during the bump.

Well, there must be more to it than that. I was fighting pretty hard to avoid being bumped earlier, but I still couldn't stay in range of the ice long enough to get enough full cycles to make my time worthwhile.

If you have some tips on piloting techniques which I could use to completely avoid the bumpers, I would appreciate it if you would share them.

Train into a Skiff and obit the roid at 2,500m, the Skiff goes at 250 m/s so its a bit more of a challenge, also its a difficult ship to gank as it has a decent tank, so if they really do try to stop you then they will have to bring a small fleet in.

When the going gets tough the Gankers get their CSM rep to change mechanics in their favour.

This is the big one. Have actually mined (permit-less no less!) in "New Order Space" because I was chatting with the guys ... also it may have helped that I was tanked Bear

(no not on this character)

I was harvesting in null until some recent corp drama removed my access to the POS I was using. Once I have a home in 0.0 again I will return, but til then...

Anyway, it isn't regular griefers which were bumping me, it was a few alliances who are "laying claim" to the ice anomalies in certain systems. I think that it should take sovereignty and combat muscle to lay claim to resources, not a bumping-fit Stabber and a cowardly reliance on CONCORD. Resources in hisec should be free for all unless they're willing to spend the ISK and time to gank or wardec those they want to drive off.

If they continually keep doing this to you specifically, and if they do it across multiple systems, file a petition and the matter will be 'handled'.

That is all.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm........there is a little bit more involved in that than just 'move to an empty 0.0 pocket'.

One does not simply walk into Null Sec.

Orbit the mining target.
Be at your keyboard - is that really too much to ask?
Buy a New Order mining permit.

Try talking to the New Order gals and guys in a civil manner, they really are a very cool bunch if you don't start the conversation with with a torrent of aggressive insults and hostile preconceptions.

Sounds like they're trying to "peacefully" lay claim to the ice.

Wardec them.

Ha. I wish it had been New Order.

The ones I dealt with were simply offensive, not reasonable like the New Order folks. Hopefully someone wardecs the people I dealt with, but ice still doesn't seem quite valuable enough to make such a wardec automatically profitable.

Also, I don't know why everyone is talking about being AFK. I was never AFK. I just have never dealt with this tactic before, so I came here for advice after looking up the dev responses.

The way these guys talked, they seem willing to gank a Skiff just for fun, since they scare away most miners with their bumping. I'll bet they'd accept the cost of a Skiff gank as acceptable since their bumper handles the rest. If the bumping tactic wasn't viable, though, I don't think they'd be acting so tough.

If they're willing to gank the skiff, then they want you not to have the ice more than you want it. Tank + orbit, or find another system. Not really very complicated.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Does not work. Especially if they are in a Stabber.

Move to a new system and if the same person still insists on bumping you, file a petition. Depending on the situation and how you've tried to a avoid it, it can fall under harassment by my understanding.

Retriever.

2 T2 micro aux

1 10 MN AB (( meta 4 ))

2 T1 strip miners

3 shield rigs for more health.

Orbit at 6k the biggest roid you are not mining.
Cap stable.

Congrats you are now really hard to gank/bump.

Yes your yield sucks but that is the price you pay for afk.

Nope, that is pretty much it. You shouldn't be AFK mining anyway. Those who do give miners (or the stereotypical "carebear") a bad name.

Skiff does actually around 600 m/s with 10 mn afterburner which makes it kinda useless to bump it. You will need powergrid rig for that tho if I remeber correct.

As far as preventing bumping - I'm not aware of anything in particular short of killing the guy bumping.

One simply grows a pair of gonads, and certainly does walk into null sec. I suppose that is the difference between the sheep and the lions; those that ask, and those that take.

Roll

Resources in hisec are free for all to attempt to collect. At the same time, other people are free to try to prevent anyone they want from that attempt. Just like everywhere else in EVE.
