To those that play on their TV's...

I need help of the living room set-up variety.

I've set up my front room to feed my PC display to the TV from upstairs. I then control said PC using wireless POWAH.

Problem, most games are fine... EVE GUI is eye bleedingly bad at max res on a TV :(

Game looks beautiful though, so I now would very much like to be able to play on it for longer than the 5 minutes it takes to stop gawping at the beautiful space graphics and read something on screen.

Chat is the only thing I seem to be able to increase in size enough not to want me to tear off my corneas.

Does anyone have a solution? My apologies if this is a common theme...

use 2 screens, keep most of your UI on your computer which should be relatively close, and keep your ship flying around on tvs?

Is this a distance issue? meaning small letters, or is it a blurr issue?
If it's a blurr issue you have to change the TVs video setup.

Also what amount of hertz is the TV running on? A regular monitor runs on 50-60 hertz, a TV can run up to 400 which might be an issue aswell.

The screen is opposite my sofa so it's a good 5ft away. I can't seem to increase the size of the UI so basically find myself squinting.

2 screens won't solve it simply because there is no where to stick the screen and if there was it would unbalance the geek levels in the room :P

I tried this a few years back with one of the total war games (I think it was Empire, cant really remember) and had he same issue. I messed around with res/hertz combinations and couldn't make it work.

Would be interested in an answer on this also, so friendly bump!

I use my TV but I sit 3 feet away because of space issues in my room.

I find that matching the TV hertz seems to make the resolution better. As far as increasing the font size of EVE, I do not know how. If I knew I would use it all the time.

Its one of those things that they should have in this game, but don't.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

Esc -> Display&Graphics - > UI Scaling

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

You want a 1080p resolution HD TV to pull this off. Anything less is going to look pretty terrible.

Windows also has the ability to optimize how text is displayed, although I never found that to make a huge difference.

i play using a 52" LCD. The most i've been able to do is max out the font size in the esc menu, (spacing also helps a little). haven't found any other better ways to go about it except for moving in closer to the screen. would love to hear other suggestions tho.

You need to match your resolution AND refresh rate (frequency) to match your TVs native resolution and rate if you want finer components like text to come out crisp. If not, the scaling makes text look soft. Newer Drivers and windows settings will help adjust this for you on the PC side. Hopefully your TV will do the same. If it scales everything coming in no matter what, you may always have issues, thought this is not common.

Also, straight connections work best, If you are using an adapter to go from HDMI->DVI or vice versa, you may not get the results you want. This will depend on your TVs ability to (not) scale the signal and your video card settings.

EVE now also has some tweeks for fonts and sharpness that may help, but 90% of issues like this will be related to video scaling.

I play EVE on a 50" 1080p flat screen tv, but its on my desk, and I sit in a recliner at the desk when I'm logged in. As a test, I just walked about 6-7 feet away and lol, I can't read the screen either (and I know what it says.) You probably just need to get closer to the screen (and embrace myopia) or find a larger display maybe. I've seen photos of folks using projectors to project dual monitor displays across a wall that must span 10-12 feet. I bet you can read that from your sofa.

Use the native resolution of your TV. I play on a 42" and the native is 1280x1024 which works great. If I wanted to get ridiculous like 2500x2200 something or another then the UI looks like crap

go native

Wait, you are playing from over 5 feet away on a screen smaller than 52 inches? I believe the issue at this size to distance ratio is your eyes, rather than the television set. There are some figures to where the advantages of 4k sets become noticeable compared to 1080p and I believe that you need something around 50" to notice an improvement at a 5 foot distance.

I've have the same television since 2006 and it has served me well as a game monitor, although I think I will replace it with a 4k once the current 4th bulb burns out.

Sounds like your current tv doesn't have 4:4:4 chroma subsampling (many don't)

Have a read here, it should clear a few things up for you.

No the screen is 52" large :)

I think I'm getting there though with tweaks here and there, some from this very thread. When I have a suitable solution I shall post it in here for future ref.
