Is the EVE community inherently depressed?

I'm seeing all these wicked things being done for the winter expansion, which - if I'm not mistaken is going to be called 'Crucible', and yet people still whine about it.

Oh the irony in this post.

Seriously, more people need to be positive... Roll

I'm very excited about the expansion. It is going to be awesome!

The only downside is that I'm worried that CCP might not be able to deliver on the summer expansion...

There's been a noticeable uptick in positive thinking on the forum but, you can't make everyone happy. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It's still certainly a marked improvement over 3 months ago when the forum was nothing but a support group for depressed capsuleers.

I have to admit i feel the same. Is this expansion just a way of getting people back on track? I think the changes are the best we have seen for years. Even though I dont think CCP have gone far enough in terms of say vertain mechanics. But hey.

Will CCP now keep this up and continue to bring out expansions like this, or will we go back to normal once the dust has settled? I hope not..but we shall see

But to answer the OP, to be honest most people in eve are miserable, moaning gits...Big smile who will never be happy.

Surely you've heard of being "fashionably unimpressed"! We dwell amongst a people who're hell-bent-for-leather spring-loaded in the "nothing impresses me" position. Oddly enough, the result of that is, nobody is impressed with them either. I tell yah, it's a hoot to watch. And, I have to say, depression and self-medication have risen parallel with the "cooler than thou" crowd.

Kids these days. Can't live with them. Can't shoot them.

The right to free speech doesn't automatically carry with it the right to be taken seriously.

The people who still like this game are to busy playing so they don't come to the forums whining about everything? Lol

Unlike those other MMO games, the Eve Community isn't impressed by shiny colors nor is given crack to smoke by the developers when a new pony is released.

We are an ultra-realist community that thrives on spreadsheets and scamming.

What you're seeing on the forum is the external happiness that gets projected by a wife to her friends after being bought a gift to make up for the previous week of beatings from her drunken, abusive spouse. "You see, I told you he really cares. What? Oh, no, those bruises, I uh... just fell down the stairs..."

welp

ya see, its not what they do so much as what they still need to do

getting back on track is a good thing, but you must bear in mind that this particular train is very long and the passengers will still be a little grumpy until the railroad manages to get all the cars back on the track, and the train starts moving again

to put it another way, they've stopped the bleeding and cleaned the wound, but there's a lot of cutting and stitching left to do before the patient can walk again

CCP is fixing and improving a ton of stuff, which is awesome.

But for some, their favorite thing (be it FW or the AFs, etc) isn't getting an upgrade this time and they're bummed.

Or the general dread of "so much change = potential for so many bugs" could be at work too.

If the EVE economy (which is the core of the game) weren't horribly broken, I'd be spreading kudos far and wide.

CCP has raised their game enough to keep me from bashing them at (almost) every opportunity. But they still have a ways to go. They've gone from contempt for the playerbase to fear for their livelihoods. If/when they get to enthusiasm for making EVE the harsh, but fair, Sandbox game it's supposed to be (making the game great just for the sake of making it great, knowing that if you make a great niche product, the customers will buy it) and chucking the 'golden goose' model (Aurum must go,) and the 'appeal to the masses' model (if you try to please everyone, you'll end up pleasing noone,) we'll be good-to-go.
