Any resources on Amarr religion out there?

Just when I thought I was going to quit Eve again, I've had a great idea for something to do. I would like to flesh it out with a bit of RP before going into it though. As such, I am wondering if there are any resources detailing the Amarr religion out there.

Specifically, I'm wondering if/how/when the Amarr can be charitable for religious reasons as opposed to always talking about slavery.

No, the Amarr Faith strictly forbids being nice to people. It is a sign of weakness punishable by death.

I'm going to assume you're joking unless you have a source ;)

Yes, of course I'm joking.

We don't have many sources for the Amarr scriptures. The ones we have are very aggressive and very Old Testament. However, we do know that the Scriptures are absurdly big. So biggly big that the main library took several Bestowers to move. That's very big.

The Amarr Faith has had 20 000 years to amass texts, and unlike modern religions it's very open to accepting new scriptures from rulers and philosophers and prophets. It's even been said that the Scriptures include scientific texts.

So I think it's a very safe bet that the scriptures have texts suggesting it's a nice thing to give money to poor people.

" As is common within the Amarr Empire, the hospitals will be run by the various religious orders that dedicate themselves to medicine and related religious duties"

Religious hospitaller orders are a thing, in the Amarr Empire.

I'd expect there to be other forms of charitable religious organisations.

However, there's the complication of how these organisations interact with the population. They would not really have much interaction with slave populations, as that may be seen as the responsibility of the owner of those slaves - the Holder, who may consider any outside organisation as being "interfering".

So, religious charitable organisations may mostly work with poor commoners. Difficult to say, really.

One also has to keep in mind, the Amarr faith is predominantly concerned with the soul.. Just as the Jesuits in our own history were concerned with the redemption of the heathen soul. If the soul is forfeit through disbelief, what point is there in saving the body, beyond maintaining a healthy labor force? The primary goal of the Reclaiming is conversion..

Charity would be concentrated on the faithful...

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then, and it's a poor sort of memory that only works backward.

As a Roman Catholic I do have to say, the Amarr faith does sound eerily similar to Catholicism in some respects. The thing that actually caught my attention the most is the mention of religious orders concerned with medicine and the maintenance of hospitals. There are a number of monastic orders that hold similar beliefs, in particular I thought of the Knights Hospitaller from the Crusades.

However, despite the theological and structural similarities, in terms of actual appearance, the Amarr faith seems to have more in common with Islam. I say this in regards to the emphasis on the use of warm colors, and geometry in ship and structural designs. On top of all of this, apparently there is a figure in the Koran who goes by the name of Amarr, which is where I would assume CCP pulled the name from to begin with.

Excelling in all things terrible.
