New suggestion for Market

Here's a thought..

What if the Market we buy things from, had a usable cart option? Like if we wanted to buy multiple things we wouldn't have to go and buy them one buy one. We could just add them to the cart and buy them all at once. Provided the cart buys the cheapest, yet closest, offer on the items you're trying to buy. And if you're only gonna buy one thing, then you can do it the ol' fashion way and click through the tabs to get it.

Anybody with me on this?

Too much coding work for no real gain.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I actually really like the idea because we could have an "Add to Cart" option from the fitting browser (if not all are available we'd obviously get an error with a list of unavailable mods). From a coding standpoint it could be an issue though I can't say I really understand a whole lot in that department. One of the better ideas to come out of F&I recently.

I'm glad to see someone is supporting this. Big smile Originally I had thought of the idea for the fitting window. "Buy all" would be nice in the fitting window with an imported/saved fitting to save time

So what would happen to the item once you add it to the cart? Would it still be avalible to others so they could buy it out from under you or would it become unavalible so I can just put all of those items that have undercut my prices in a cart until someone buys my item. After which, I than cancel my order returning the lower priced items to the market?

It should work like any shopping cart at almost any internet site. When you place things in your cart they aren't reserved (I have had things sell out between the time I have added to cart and when I got to "checkout") so I don't see how that's an issue.

When you have everything selected and are ready to checkout then you will be presented with a final buy price, accept it and all the items get added to your item hanger. If a cheaper item has sold out then the game will present the next higher priced item or if none available it will pop up a message stating the fact and you can ether purchase what is available or select a different item then buy.

The code isn't particularly difficult, but trying to tack it into EVE might be.

Might be a good time to recode/fix up the market place anyway...

True.

I kinda like the idea: Of course, it would only be a "pre-buy" option, of sorts, so you wouldn't really have bought it till you actually bought it... I also don't think it should automatically pic the best price/nearest opportunity, you just pic it yourself, as before, and just add it to "buy queue" (I don't like the term "cart") except "buy"... when you done, you go to your "queue" and hit "buy all".

Can't be that hard to code, actually.

That's what I'm trying to get around. The choosing yourself thing. It takes a lot of time to buy fittings for a ship you just bought and have a saved fit for. The cart option would make it faster, simple, and better. All you would have to do it go to the item you want, click "Add to cart" (or something more EVE like "Add to order list" something along those lines). Then when you're done and want to buy everything, you just look at your list and click Order/Buy. Everything you just bought will be in the corrisponding station awaiting your pickup.

Also, Jasmine, you have the right idea about this. Once you put an item in your cart it doesn't reserve it at all, other people can buy it before you do. It just allows you to buy everything at once with a Grand total price at the end. And I like your idea about the message popping up if it isn't available

But Shopping cart isn't science-y enough....hrrrmm...

What about calling it "Place Bulk order"?

"Bulk order" is good, I like that. It should be "Place bulk order" That's perfect for EVE Big smile

From an UI point of view, I don't really see the need for this. When you buy an item you have to right click it, press buy, the buy window pops out in which you optionally change the quantity field and then press buy.

With the new cart option, you'd still have to right click and press add to cart. Now either a window pops up asking you the quantity, or you can later edit that in the cart window.

The only benefit, from an UI perspective, is that it saves you from pressing the buy button for each item, replacing it with one press at the end.

Now, from a functionality point of view. The only benefit I can think of right now is having a list of the items you want to buy. When buying a fit for a ship, you can sometimes forget which items you've already bought and you may end up buying some of them twice. Coordinating with your assets window can really be a pain.

The solution to this would be adding the fitting to the market quickbar and then proceeding to buying each item in a sequential order.

Also, some technical limitations would be caused by this new feature. Firstly, what happens when an item you've just added to the cart is no longer available on the market? Does it get removed from the cart? Do you receive a notification when this happens?

Let's say that when you're ready to checkout, you see that some of your items have been removed. You then proceed to the market again and add those items back, maybe at different prices than originalyl. You then proceed to the checkout window again, which refreshes, only to show you that another item has been removed while you were replacing the previous two. This would not have happened if you would've just bought the other items one by one.

Another technical issue would be when placing the order. The client would send a spike of requests to the server that could cause it to 'hiccup'. Rather than having one buy request every 2 seconds, the server would get 20 requests every 15 seconds, which may cause the client to lag.

All in all, I think that this feature would cause too much trouble for what's it worth.

If you're gonna post here thinking your idea is the greatest thing since bacon and that it will save EVE and possibly all humankind with it, you're gonna have a bad time.

As almost every core functionality in Eve market could also use few improvements.

For example selling everything to buy orders would be real blessing when you try to liquidate all loot you accumulated from missions.

Buying whole fits could be another or at least automatic buy option for each module (you have 8 guns fitted so you would see automatic "8" in buy window).

Shopping cart or bulk order wouldn't be bad too.

I mean it all is not crucial and obviously we can get by with what we have now but you know convenience, user friendly UI, etc.
